What is the effect of umbilical cord fungus on children?

The health of newborns is always a concern for parents and friends. Some friends have found abnormalities on their baby’s belly button, and even symptoms such as bleeding and pus. If this happens, parents should not ignore it and should take their children to the pediatric department for examination and treatment in time. Umbilical cord fungus is a common symptom in newborns. Here we will introduce to you how to deal with umbilical cord fungus on the newborn's belly.

The impact of umbilical cord fungus on children

During embryonic development, the connection between the yolk tube and the midgut gradually narrows to form a long and thin tube, called the yolk tube; one end of the yolk tube is connected to the intestine, and the other end is connected to the umbilicus. When the embryo is 5-6 weeks old, the yolk duct gradually becomes blocked and degenerates and disappears. If the embryo is affected by certain factors, the yolk duct is gradually blocked and degenerated, and it remains partially or fully open after birth, then a series of deformities will appear in sequence, such as umbilical cord anus, umbilical asphyxia, umbilical enteric fistula, Meikle's diverticulum, yolk duct cyst, etc., which are the residues of incomplete degeneration of the yolk duct during embryonic development. Umbilical cord occlusion means that the yolk duct is completely blocked, with only mucosal tissue remaining in the umbilicus. After birth, red mucosal tissue can be seen in the umbilicus, which secretes colorless mucus and may even form ulcers.

What should I do if there is umbilical cord fungus on my baby’s belly?

First, because umbilical cord velvet is basically accompanied by secretions, before applying gentian violet, you should use a cotton swab dipped in saline to thoroughly clean and disinfect the surface, surrounding area, and roots of the umbilical cord velvet, and then dry it with a cotton swab.

Second, use a cotton swab to dip in gentian violet and apply it to the surface, surrounding area, and root of the navel velvet. Use an appropriate amount. If you accidentally use too much, use a cotton swab to wipe off the excess, making sure it does not flow out of the navel. After application, you can use gauze to separate it to avoid staining clothes.

Third, apply gentian violet once or twice a day, and clean and disinfect with saline before each application.

Fourth, the approximate time of effect depends on individual differences. Some may take three or two days to heal completely (some umbilical cord hairs slowly shrink and fall off, while others slowly become smooth and the secretions disappear). Some may take up to a month to heal completely. Generally, it takes about a week to heal completely (based on actual feedback from friends). Of course, there are very few cases where there is no effect.

Fifth, it is important to emphasize that the gentian violet must be genuine (a simple way to identify the authenticity is that if it does not fade easily when applied to the skin, it is genuine, otherwise it is fake), because gentian violet is the key to treating umbilical cord fungus and secretions; it is not recommended to use irritants such as hydrogen peroxide and alcohol, as they will have a counterproductive effect; it is not recommended to use common anti-inflammatory drugs such as iodine tincture, as they will not have a therapeutic effect.

How to treat umbilical cord

1. General umbilical cord fungus can be cured with normal saline solution and 1% gentian violet solution (commonly known as gentian violet). Clean the baby's belly button with saline every day, and then apply gentian violet solution to the belly button twice a day. It will usually be cured within 10 days (there are also patients who were cured in more than 40 days, it's important to persist). It should be noted that the belly button of the baby with belly button must not be exposed to water, and the baby's belly button must be kept dry. It can be exposed to water only after it is completely cured. 2. Small belly button can be cauterized with 10% silver nitrate (drug corrosion).

3. For umbilical cord antrum with a pedicle, you can tie it with thread first, and then burn the remaining part with 10% silver nitrate.

4. Thick umbilical cord hair generally requires surgical removal.

5. Other treatment methods, such as laser therapy, can also be used.

6. Those with complications need to be hospitalized for examination and treatment.
