Disadvantages of breastfeeding for more than two years old

Disadvantages of breastfeeding for more than two years old

The elders say that it is enough for babies to drink breast milk until they are seven or eight months old. If the baby is not weaned by the age of one, the elders will think that it is too late to wean. We often hear the mother-in-law say to the baby when helping to take care of the baby: You are already 2 years old and are still drinking your mother's milk, aren't you ashamed? The World Health Organization recommends that babies can drink breast milk until 2 years old. Of course, this does not mean that babies should be fed with breast milk exclusively until 2 years old, but that a variety of complementary foods need to be added.

1. How old is the best age for breastfeeding?

There are a lot of controversies about the issue of weaning. Many mothers have different statements and opinions. Some think it is better to wean early, while others think it is better to wean later. The World Health Organization and the International Lactation Association state that exclusive breastfeeding should be required for six months, breastfeeding should last at least twelve months, and it is best to wean by the age of two. Therefore, it will be easier to wean the child when he is about two years old, because the baby's sense of security has been satisfied at the age of two.

What are the benefits of breastfeeding?

1. Breast milk contains more lactose needed for infant growth and development than other dairy products.

2. Breast milk contains high levels of cysteine and aminotaurine, which are beneficial to the brain growth of newborns and promote intellectual development.

3. Breast milk contains lactoferrin, which is most suitable for the needs of newborns and premature babies and can prevent the growth of harmful bacteria.

4. Breastfeeding not only promotes the recovery of the uterus after childbirth, but also reduces the incidence of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

5. Breast milk can enhance the disease resistance of newborns. Colostrum and transitional milk are rich in secretory IgA, which can enhance the respiratory resistance of newborns.

6. British scientists conducted an eight-year study in which 300 premature babies were divided into two groups: breastfed and non-breastfed. The premature babies who were breastfed within four or five months after birth had an average IQ 83 points higher than that of non-breastfed babies when they were 7 and 7.5 years old.

7. Economical and affordable. A can of milk powder can cost three or four hundred yuan, and people worry about its safety all day long. Breast milk does not have this concern at all and is very convenient.

8. Easy to digest. Breast milk is the best food for babies. Although their intestines are not yet fully developed, they can absorb the nutrients in breast milk very well.

9. Increase parent-child affection. Looking down at the cute little face of the baby is the most enjoyable moment for every mother. The baby can also fully feel the mother's love and increase his sense of security.

3. Disadvantages of exclusive breastfeeding until 2 years old

The nutritional value of breast milk is no longer the main factor in food choices for 2-year-old children. Children must be encouraged to develop good habits of eating a balanced diet and consuming a variety of foods. According to the Nutrition Association's requirements for dairy products, it is sufficient to maintain a daily intake of 200 grams of dairy products (including breast milk and powdered milk). Some families mechanically believe that "breast milk is the most nutritious" and do not pay attention to the addition of complementary foods. They simply feed their children with breast milk until they are 2 years old, which has caused many children to become severely malnourished.
