What is the reason for the newborn's crooked mouth?

All parents hope that their children can grow up healthily. Some babies are born with a relatively large head, which squeezes their heads crooked at birth. Later, their heads are not crooked anymore but their mouths are still a little crooked, which causes a lot of trouble for their parents. We rarely hear about the phenomenon of newborns having crooked mouths. The reason for this may be that there are certain problems in the development of the fetus in the mother's body, such as congenital facial paralysis, which is commonly known as hanging line wind.

1. What is the reason for the newborn's crooked mouth?

1. The facial deformation may be caused by the squeezing during childbirth, which should return to normal as you age. It is recommended to go to a regular hospital for examination as soon as possible to find out the cause of the disease.

2. When a newborn cries, the nerves on his face are affected, and babies cry more excitedly. It is normal for the mouth to be crooked. When the baby cries, try to comfort him/her and don’t let him/her cry too much. When the baby is not crying, the mouth won’t be crooked, and it will get better as he grows older.

3. The child may have congenital facial nerve paralysis. This is what adults commonly call the hanging line wind. You can go to the neurology department to rule it out first. Children who are still relatively young can also observe. It is recommended that you take your child to the neonatal department for consultation. The doctor can only clarify the child's condition after a detailed physical examination and related auxiliary examinations.

2. What is Crooked Mouth Crying Syndrome

Crooked mouth crying syndrome is an abnormal development of facial expression muscles. The lips of the affected baby are symmetrical when normal or smiling, but when crying, one corner of the mouth pulls down, resulting in a crooked mouth crying face. The reason is not due to birth trauma or malposition of the fetus, and the electromyography examination also shows no facial nerve paralysis. It is because the depressor anguli oris muscles on one side are underdeveloped, which causes them to be unable to be pulled down when crying, while the healthy side's depressor anguli oris muscles still pull down, forming an asymmetrical crying mouth. The presence of this disease signals the presence of a congenital malformation.

3. Treatment of Newborn Mouth Deviance

1. Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the traditional methods for treating facial paralysis. It can relieve the condition to a certain extent and has relatively small side effects. However, acupuncture does have great risks. The facial nerves are complex and the slightest carelessness can cause sequelae of facial paralysis.

2. Plaster treatment

Plaster treatment is a type of external Chinese medicine. It is made by boiling vegetable oil or animal oil with medicine into a gelatinous substance, which is applied to one side of cloth, paper or leather. It can be stuck to the affected area for a long time. It is mainly used to reduce swelling and pain, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, dredge meridians, etc. It can relieve crooked mouth and squinting eyes to a certain extent, but it cannot completely cure facial paralysis. In addition, plaster is a folk remedy with a slow effect. Improper compatibility can easily delay the disease.

3. Medication

Vitamin drugs or antiviral, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs can improve blood circulation, increase nutrition of facial nerves and relieve facial discomfort symptoms, but patients need to take them for a long time. Long-term use of drugs will cause simple thrombocytopenia in patients.
