What should I do if my child has convulsions?

For many parents, their children's health is very important. Many people are always concerned about their children's health. Some parents may find that their children have convulsions, and the cause of the children's convulsions may be due to some diseases such as epilepsy. So when the children have convulsions, what can parents do to protect them? Measures must be taken because convulsions may harm the child's body.

1. Prevent tongue biting

Wrap a gauze handkerchief around chopsticks or a small spoon and place it between the child's upper and lower teeth to prevent the child from biting the tongue. If your teeth are clenched tightly, do not pry them open forcefully. Instead, use chopsticks to insert them between the teeth on both sides.

2. Keep the airway open.

Unbutton the child's collar, loosen the belt, let the child lie flat with the head tilted to one side to prevent vomitus from being inhaled into the respiratory tract and causing suffocation.

3. Massage acupuncture points

Acupuncture at the Ren Zhong point or pressing the Ren Zhong point with your fingers can sometimes have an antispasmodic effect. When a child has convulsions due to high fever, he or she should be allowed to sleep in a cool place, undress, and a towel soaked in cold water should be placed on the forehead, armpits, and large blood vessels in the groin to accelerate the body's heat dissipation and reduce body temperature. In addition to high fever, hypocalcemia, hypoglycemia, epilepsy, meningitis, encephalitis and bacterial dysentery can also cause convulsions. Therefore, it is best to ask a pediatrician for examination and treatment.
