What are the symptoms of scarlet fever in children?

The occurrence of scarlet fever in children will have an adverse effect on their healthy growth, so it is necessary to detect it in time and take timely treatment measures. It is often accompanied by symptoms such as headache, sore throat or fever, and the tongue of the child will be red and swollen during the rash period.

1. Onset confused with cold What are the symptoms of scarlet fever? In the early stage of scarlet fever, most patients suddenly develop chills and fever. In severe cases, the body temperature can rise to 39-40℃, accompanied by headache, sore throat, loss of appetite, general discomfort, nausea and vomiting. The difference is that on the 2nd to 3rd day of the onset of scarlet fever, the patient will have a diffuse red rash all over the body, spreading from the neck to the trunk and limbs. After 3-5 days, the rash will fade and the skin will desquamate.

2. Rash period: What are the symptoms of scarlet fever? Most babies with scarlet fever will develop a rash on their skin 12 hours after the onset of the disease, and occasionally a few babies will develop it after 2 days. The rash first appears on the neck and upper chest and can spread all over the body within a day. The rash is bright red and the size of a needle tip, and some of it looks like "goose bumps". If you press it with your fingers, the redness will temporarily fade and the skin under pressure will turn pale. After more than ten seconds, the skin will return to its scarlet color. This phenomenon is called "palm print". The face is congested and flushed, but there is no rash. The area around the lips and the tip of the nose appears pale, so it is called "perioral pale circle."

3. 3-4 days after the rash appears: What are the symptoms of scarlet fever with bayberry tongue? 3-4 days after the rash appears, the tongue coating of the sick baby peels off, and the tongue papillae are red and swollen, which looks like bright red bayberries, so it is called "bayberry tongue".

4. Recovery period: What are the symptoms of exfoliative scarlet fever? The rash usually disappears in 2 to 4 days, and in babies with severe illness, it may take about a week to disappear. The skin will start peeling within a week after the rash of scarlet fever subsides, and the order of peeling is the same as the order of the rash. The trunk is mostly bran-like peeling, and large membranous peeling is often seen in the thick skin of the palms and soles. Fissured peeling at the nail ends is a typical manifestation. Peeling lasts for 2 to 4 weeks and leaves no pigmentation. For most babies, their body temperature gradually returns to normal as the rash subsides. A very small number of children have severe symptoms, including high fever, convulsions, coma, and even shock. Sometimes it may be complicated by diseases such as myocarditis, nephritis, rheumatic fever, otitis media, and pneumonia.
