Does a child’s lack of self-confidence come from their parents?

Some parents are troubled by finding that their children are not confident. In fact, it is often affected by the parenting methods of their parents. Most children are not confident because their parents are too caring or too critical of their children. Let's talk about it below.

Why do children lack self-confidence?

Overprotection

From the moment a child is born, he or she becomes the center of the family. The family members care for the child meticulously and take care of everything for him. Take eating for example, when the child can eat by himself, he should be allowed to eat by himself. Although the child will eat a mess and take a long time at the beginning, this is the process of him learning to eat. If the adults nearby seem anxious, they can't help but feed him. Another example is washing hands, mothers often help them wash because they feel that their children can't wash them clean by themselves. There are many such examples in life. You must know that if a child is not given the opportunity to try when learning a skill, how can the child's ability be developed in the learning process? His parents frequently deprived him of opportunities to study, and naturally his self-confidence decreased.

Another manifestation of overprotection is intimidation. Sometimes parents don’t let their children go out to play, but when the children refuse to listen, the parents will say, “There are ××× outside, you may be in danger…”. This trick is very effective, and most children will stay at home obediently and not go out, but the children’s self-confidence is also scared away in this way.

Too much criticism

Many parents have high expectations for their children and always like to compare their children with others. Every child has his or her own strengths and weaknesses. When children find that their parents always only see their own shortcomings or weaknesses and turn a blind eye to their own strengths, how can the children have confidence?

In addition, many parents ignore the fact that “what other children can do may not be possible for my child”, and requiring the same standard from their children is actually making things difficult for them. If you do this, you will definitely suffer wherever you go, and unfortunately it will also destroy your child's self-confidence.
