Why don’t children sleep at night? 8 reasons why your baby won't sleep

If a child does not sleep at night, it will affect the child's mental state for the whole day. The child may not sleep at night because he sleeps too much during the day or the child may not sleep because the adults stay up late at night. Also, if the child does not sleep, parents should pay attention to whether he is covered with too many quilts, making him hot, or too few, making him cold. If this happens, it is best for parents to sleep with their children.

There are 8 main reasons why babies are restless when sleeping:

1. Due to physiological reasons, it is normal for babies under three months old to be easily frightened because their nervous system has not yet fully developed.

2. Lack of trace elements. If your baby is easily startled and has bald spots on the back of the head or night sweats, you should suspect that he is calcium deficient and go to the hospital for relevant examinations.

3. Too cold or too hot. Many times, babies cannot sleep well because mothers cover them too thickly and they wake up from the heat, or because the quilt is not covered properly and they get cold.

4. Lack of sense of security. Babies, especially newborns, have just arrived in an unfamiliar environment and have more or less fear of everything around them. Lack of security is also one of the important reasons why babies wake up. For such babies, parents can let them sleep in a smaller space, such as a cradle or stroller, or they can place bed guards, curtains, cushions and other items around the crib. You should also pay attention to the sleeping environment, such as letting your baby sleep in a fixed bed, using fixed bedding, listening to fixed music, etc.

5. Being frightened during the day. The baby's nervous system is relatively fragile. If the baby is frightened during the day, beaten or scolded by parents, etc., it will cause restless sleep at night. If the case is mild, parents only need to hold the baby and comfort him/her softly when he/she wakes up. The baby will usually heal on his/her own in 1 to 2 days. If the situation is serious, you can go to the hospital for a check-up and take some Chinese medicine for children to calm their nerves.

6. Being too excited or stimulated before going to bed. If the baby watches a very tense movie or plays too crazy before going to bed, he or she may wake up easily at night and wet the bed.

7. Too quiet. Some families are very worried that their baby’s sleep will be disturbed, so they dare not make any noise when the baby is sleeping, and they have to use gestures and pass notes to communicate with each other. This causes the baby to be very sensitive when sleeping and wake up at the slightest noise. The more careful you are, the more likely your baby will be awakened by the slightest sound. Therefore, you should start to pay attention when your baby is born and do not deliberately arrange for your baby to sleep in an absolutely quiet environment.

8. Nipple attachment. No matter which feeding method is adopted, the baby may develop nipple attachment. The only difference is whether the baby is attached to the mother's nipple or pacifier. These babies often fall asleep with the nipple in their mouth. Once they find the nipple is gone, they will burst into tears and must hold the nipple in their mouth to fall asleep again. It would be best if you could break your baby's habit, and you can also consider using a pacifier.
