What foods should children eat when their eyesight is declining?

Parents are naturally worried about their children's declining eyesight, because declining eyesight will have a certain impact on their children's study and future life. They can be given more calcium-rich foods and pay attention to the supplementation of vitamin A.

1. A diet rich in calcium.

Calcium is the "protector" of eye tissue. If the body lacks calcium, it will not only cause the elasticity of the retina to decrease, the pressure in the lens to increase, and the anterior-posterior diameter of the eyeball to lengthen, but it can also cause degenerative lesions of the cornea and ciliary muscles, easily leading to vision loss or myopia. Milk, beans, edible fungi, dried fruits and seafood are rich in calcium. Cod liver oil, animal liver, dairy products and egg yolks are rich in vitamin D. Eating the two together will help the absorption of calcium.

2. Pay attention to supplementing vitamin A.

Vitamin A, also known as retinol, plays an important role in the formation of human vision. It is involved in the synthesis of rhodopsin in the retina. If there is a lack of vitamin A, the eyes' ability to adapt to dark environments will be reduced, and in severe cases, night blindness may occur.

3. Vitamin A is mainly found in animal foods , with higher content in animal liver, cod liver oil, fish roe, whole milk and whole milk products, eggs, etc. Although plant-based vegetables do not contain vitamin A, the carotene they contain can be converted into vitamin A in the human body, so they are called provitamin A. Provitamin A is found in high concentrations in green and yellow vegetables and fruits such as spinach, leeks, pea sprouts, alfalfa, green peppers, sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, apricots, and mangoes.
