Whooping cough symptoms and prevention in children

Whooping cough in children is a common phenomenon. Children have weak constitutions and often catch colds, which can cause coughing. Children like to move around a lot, have a lot of activity, and sweat frequently. When the wind blows, they will catch a cold and cough. Nowadays, almost every family has one child, and parents' care for their children has reached the extreme. Parents are very anxious when their children cough, but they can’t tell what kind of cough it is and they are just afraid it is whooping cough.

Whooping cough in children is indeed very uncomfortable and causes great pain to children. Children will have coughing for a long time. Will frequent coughing lead to pneumonia? What is the difference between an ordinary cough and whooping cough? The symptoms and prevention of whooping cough in children are of concern to parents.

symptom

(1) The initial symptoms are similar to a cold, but the cough worsens after a few days, especially at night. After 1 to 2 weeks, it develops into a paroxysmal coughing stage.

(2) The paroxysmal coughing phase is characterized by bouts of coughing. The cough is short, and lasts for more than ten times without a break for inhalation. The face becomes red, and snot and tears flow out. Finally, there is a long and deep breath, and a "rooster-crowing" sound is emitted, and food is often vomited out.

It is worth noting that newborns with whooping cough have weak coughing and narrow trachea and bronchial lumens, which are easily blocked by sputum. Therefore, after contracting whooping cough, the condition often does not show typical bouts of coughing, but only bouts of shortness of breath and a cyanotic complexion.

(3) Recovery period: After 2 to 6 weeks of coughing spells, the patient enters the recovery period. The recovery period is about 2 to 3 weeks.

prevention

(1) Vaccination with a combined diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine.

(2) Detect and isolate patients early.

(3) Contact quarantine: if a person develops coughing symptoms during the quarantine period, he or she should be isolated and observed.

(4) Isolation of the source of infection Strictly implementing respiratory isolation for patients with this disease is an important preventive measure. The quarantine period is 7 weeks from the onset of illness, or 4 weeks from the onset of coughing. Susceptible children who have close contact with the virus (especially in collective institutions) need to be quarantined for 3 weeks. Adult patients should be careful to avoid contact with children. The source of the epidemic only needs ventilation.

The above introduces the symptoms and prevention of whooping cough in children. We hope that parents can distinguish the types of children's coughs. The public has rich experience in treating whooping cough. Parents can choose one method or use several methods at the same time to solve the child's whooping cough problem according to the child's specific situation, and the child's whooping cough problem can be solved quickly.
