When children wear glasses, these things should be kept in mind!

Myopia is a common phenomenon among children. Parents may buy glasses for their children when they are very young, but children must pay attention to eye examinations when wearing glasses and must not be careless. Also, wearing glasses does not just mean expensive ones, but also the fit.

1. Pay attention to fitting glasses, but neglect optometry and eye examination.

One of the misconceptions about fitting glasses for children is that many parents find that their children have poor eyesight, and often, in order to save trouble, take their children to an optical shop on the street to have their eyes tested by computer, and then hastily fit glasses for their children. Some parents think that children just need to wear glasses and do not need professional optometry or medical examination.

There are many reasons why children have poor eyesight or decreased vision. Sometimes it is not necessarily caused by myopia and myopic astigmatism. Some fundus lesions can also manifest as decreased vision. Therefore, before children get glasses, they should undergo a systematic ophthalmic examination to check for amblyopia, strabismus, congenital cataracts, congenital glaucoma, congenital fundus disease, congenital nystagmus, etc. In addition, it is recommended that parents take their children to a regular ophthalmology hospital for vision tests and eye examinations every year. This can detect children's eye problems early and ensure early detection and treatment.

2. Fitting glasses hastily without doing a mydriasis examination.

When you find that your child is myopic, do not rush to give him or her glasses. You need to distinguish whether the child has true myopia or false myopia. When some parents find that their children's eyesight is deteriorating, they take it upon themselves to go to the eyewear store and directly choose glasses for their children.

Children and adolescents under the age of 15 must have their pupils dilated for eye examination. This can reflect the child's true vision and prevent false myopia from "cheating the computer" during computer eye examination, which can lead to the wrong glasses being fitted.

In addition, because children's eyes have stronger adaptability, if the mydriasis refraction is not performed to paralyze the ciliary muscles and relax the tense adapting muscles, the eyes will over-adjust, affecting the final optometry results and causing a large error in the refractive power.

3. When choosing glasses, people only look for expensive ones, but ignore whether they are suitable for children.

There are many varieties of eyeglass frames and lenses on the market, and the prices vary greatly. Many parents blindly pursue expensive glasses when fitting them for their children, believing that only expensive glasses are the best and the most expensive glasses are suitable for their children's eye development.

The most important thing when buying glasses for children is to find one that suits them. Don’t just go for the most expensive and best, or focus on fashion by choosing frameless or perforated frames. Children under 10 years old can choose glasses frames with soft edges and protective nose pads, and those over 10 years old can basically choose full-frame frames. The frame should be light, and the closer the frame size is to the actual pupil distance of the eyes, the better, taking into account the width of the child's face. This can avoid the excessive inward shift of the lens optical center caused by the frame being too large, thereby causing a prismatic effect that causes discomfort when wearing.
