How can children grow taller?

Parents all hope that their children can grow up healthily and have a tall stature. However, the usual situation is that many children are not very tall, especially when compared with other children, so people are naturally very worried. Therefore, I am very concerned about various methods that can help children grow taller. So, how can children grow taller? Let’s take a closer look below.

Genetics determine height potential

The physiological process of growth is actually affected by many aspects, including acquired environmental factors such as nutrition and emotions. But the most important factor is genetics. According to research, 75% of a person's final height is determined by genetic factors. That is to say, in general, if parents are tall, their children will also be tall; if parents are short, their children will also be short. Parents who love their children so much that they hope their children can grow up to be very tall often ignore the importance of genetic factors.

Pay attention to monitoring your child's height

Parents are concerned about their children's growth but often neglect monitoring. When we asked parents who came to the hospital for consultation whether they knew how tall their children were last year, two-thirds of them could not give an accurate answer. They only started to become anxious when their children became shorter than their peers. In fact, if we don’t know the changes in the child’s height, we will not be able to clearly understand whether the child’s short stature is due to a lack of growth hormone or late development. Parents also need to know what the signs of sexual development are.

It is very important to monitor your child's height at all times. We can calculate the annual growth rate through the difference between the heights before and after 3 months. If the child's growth rate is less than 4 cm, it means that his growth rate is relatively slow. You should also go to the hospital to measure your bone age. If your bone age is two years behind, you should pay close attention to it.

Calcium tablets may be more harmful than helpful

Some parents are anxious to help their children grow taller and try to find solutions on their own, but often the result is counterproductive, such as calcium supplements. Calcium is an important component of bones, so many parents believe that taking more calcium supplements will help their children grow taller.

In fact, calcium supplementation and height increase are two different things. Calcium is a component of bones. If calcium deficiency is caused by rickets, it will mainly manifest as bone deformities. However, for short people with a relatively uniform height, there is no problem with their bones. Calcium supplementation in the usual sense means replenishing the calcium lost in the body in a timely manner to maintain bone density. Calcium supplementation cannot make bones longer or even thicker. If calcium is supplemented alone, even for rickets, if vitamin D is not supplemented at the same time, calcium absorption will become a problem and the therapeutic effect will be very limited. Moreover, if too much calcium is consumed, it can easily lead to urinary stones and adverse reactions such as constipation, which can cause pain to the children and even affect their growth.

Parents should be clear about how children can grow taller. There are many factors that affect children's height growth. In order to prevent children from being affected, it is very necessary for parents to understand these factors. Improving children's meals and letting them exercise more are all good methods. The key is to eat a reasonable diet.
