What are the dangers of teenage obesity?

As a growing generation, teenagers are the sun of the motherland at 7 or 8 in the morning and the hope of the nation. Therefore, parents and the society are very concerned about their growth and the problems that arise during their growth. A common problem now is teenage obesity. There are few fat people in a class. For parents, this may be health, but the harm of teenage obesity is also very serious.

1. Affects body shape

Adolescence is a good time for the human body to shape its body, which means that this period has a great impact on a person's height, weight and body shape. However, many bad habits in life lead to excessive subcutaneous fat, giving people the impression of "bloated, weak, lazy, clumsy", which affects the body shape of teenagers.

2. Impact on mental health

Due to obesity, teenagers’ movements are often not flexible enough and they are rejected by many people when participating in group activities, thus developing a strong sense of inferiority. If their academic performance is not very good and they are clumsy, they will become withdrawn, unwilling to interact with others, and may even develop autism.

3. Affect intellectual development

Obese children and adolescents have too much fat accumulated in their bodies, and their oxygen consumption is 30% to 40% higher than that of normal people. The oxygen supply in the body is insufficient to meet demand, so they become listless, easily fatigued, sleepy, and have difficulty concentrating, which affects their learning efficiency and causes a decline in academic performance.

Obesity in adolescents can also cause sexual development disorders, delayed sexual development in boys and precocious puberty and early menarche in girls, often accompanied by menstrual disorders. Being overweight will increase the burden on teenagers' bodies, and phenomena such as flat feet, inward-curved knees, lower limb bending, and damage to the spine and intervertebral cartilage are common. Obese children and adolescents have high cholesterol and fatty acids, high blood lipids, suppressed immune systems, poor disease resistance, and are susceptible to respiratory infections. It is also easy for some "adult diseases" to occur at a younger age, such as diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, and coronary heart disease.

The above tells you about the dangers of obesity in teenagers. After understanding it, do parents still think this is healthy? Yes, people in the past had nothing to eat, so being thin was a sign of malnutrition. But now the environment has changed. Being too thin is not good, and being obese is also not good. It affects teenagers physically, psychologically, intellectually, and in health aspects, so teenage obesity must be addressed.
