What to do if children have constipation

Constipation is very common in our lives, not just in children, but in almost all people of all ages. But why do children also suffer from constipation? The reason is the child’s unreasonable eating habits. Many parents are now paying attention to the development of children, so they will feed their children a lot of nutritious food, which will cause constipation in children. So if this symptom occurs, what should we do?

In fact, to relieve the pain of children's constipation, we must start by changing their daily living habits. Constipation in children is mostly caused by poor eating habits. In daily life, the foods that children like to eat are often prone to causing constipation, such as puffed foods like eggs, milk, milk powder, chocolate, and potato chips. Parents can first reduce the amount of these foods, and most constipation symptoms will improve. At the same time, drink more water and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in fiber, such as spinach, celery, cabbage, cucumber, watermelon, banana, kiwi, etc. It should be noted that not all fruits and vegetables help with bowel movements. Foods that are hot or astringent in nature, such as grapes, lychees, mangoes, black plums, and yams, should not be given to children in large quantities.

Secondly, develop good bowel habits. It is best to have regular bowel movements every day, and to have bowel movements as soon as you feel the urge to do so, to avoid aggravating constipation by not having a bowel movement for a long time. Parents can let their children sit on the potty or toilet chair after breakfast or dinner every day, assume the correct posture, and form good bowel habits.

Finally, parents should pay attention to their children’s daily toileting habits, daily schedule and diet, and make sure to keep all aspects of life normal to reduce the occurrence of constipation. Try to eat more easily digestible food, especially in the summer, which is a season when the body is prone to discomfort, so you need to be extra careful.
