Is it normal for a child to have a vision of 0.8?

We found that many people with vision problems are young people, especially some school students. And now with the increase of study pressure, the number of students with vision problems is also increasing. Many parents are also worried about their children's eyesight. Some parents want to know whether it is normal for their seven or eight-year-old children to have a vision of 0.8. If you want to know, let's take a look with the editor now!

Children's eye development is a process, and the younger they are, the worse their eyesight is. The visual acuity of a 4-year-old child is generally 0.6-0.8, 0.8-1.0 at 5 years old, and above 1.0 at 6 years old. However, each child's eye develops at a different rate. For children under 6 years old, a visual acuity between 0.4 and 1.0 is considered normal. But there are differences. How do you tell if a child's poor eyesight is normal? There are three criteria:

1. First, we must rule out organic diseases, such as congenital cataracts, glaucoma, and other fundus problems;

2. The child's vision in both eyes is balanced, that is, the vision of both eyes is equivalent and there is no strabismus. If the left eye is 0.4 and the right eye is 1.0, then there is definitely something wrong with the left eye;

3. There is no obvious refractive error in the mydriatic eye test, such as no obvious astigmatism, myopia or high hyperopia.

It is said that the earlier a child's eye problems are discovered and treated, the better the results. Is there a critical period?

Generally speaking, the eyes of children aged seven or eight are basically mature, and the treatment effect is better before this age. Children under the age of 6 have no academic burden and have more time to cooperate with treatment. Therefore, it is generally recommended that children should detect vision problems in time and receive early treatment before the age of 6. However, it does not mean that a 10-year-old child with poor eyesight should not be treated. Treatment is still effective at this time. Even if a twelve or thirteen-year-old child has eyesight problems, there is still hope with active treatment.

After reading the above description by the editor, I wonder if all parents are satisfied? If the child has vision problems, parents should pay attention to it, because if no treatment measures are taken, the vision problem will become more and more serious, and finally the child can only wear glasses. Wearing glasses not only affects the appearance, but it is also not very convenient for children when playing or studying.
