What causes a child to cough and have phlegm at night?

Children's immunity is relatively low, and their metabolism and excretion are relatively fast. At this time, children often sweat at night, and parents will kick off the quilts. Once the quilts are kicked off, the baby will catch a cold. Then, the child will be prone to bronchial diseases and coughs. Parents will find that their children cough and have phlegm at night. How should we solve this situation in our lives?

Family Relief Program

1. Raise your baby's head at night: If your baby keeps coughing while sleeping, you can raise his head, which will relieve the coughing symptoms. Elevating the head is helpful for most coughs caused by infections, because when lying flat, the secretions in the baby's nasal cavity can easily flow down the throat, causing throat itching and causing the cough to worsen at night. Elevating the head can reduce the secretions from draining backwards. You should also change your sleeping position frequently, preferably alternating between the left and right sides, which is conducive to the discharge of respiratory secretions. Do not let a baby who is coughing lie down to sleep immediately after feeding to prevent spitting up and aspiration caused by coughing. If accidental aspiration and choking occur, you should immediately put the baby in a low-head and high-feet position, pat the back gently, encourage the baby to cough, and cough out the inhaled material.

2. Steam cough relief method: For babies who keep coughing, the symptoms will be relieved in an environment with room temperature around 20 degrees and humidity around 60-65%. If your baby has a severe cough, let him/her inhale steam; or hold your baby in a steam-filled bathroom for 5 minutes. The humid air can help clear mucus from your baby's lungs and calm his/her cough.

3. Hot water bottle on the back to relieve cough: Fill the hot water bottle with hot water at about 40 degrees, wrap it with a thin towel, and then apply it to the baby's back close to the lungs. This can speed up the dispelling of cold and relieve cough quickly. This method is particularly effective for cough symptoms that appear in the early stages of colds. Put some underwear on your baby before applying the mask, and be careful not to burn your baby.

4. Hot drink cough relief method: Drinking more warm drinks can make the baby's sticky phlegm thinner, relieve the tension of the respiratory mucosa, and promote coughing up phlegm. It is best to let your baby drink warm water or warm milk, rice soup, etc. You can also give your baby fresh fruit juice. The fruit juice should be apple juice and pear juice with less stimulation, etc. It is not advisable to drink citrus juice such as orange juice and grapefruit juice.

Proposal 3: Cough care should be scientific

In fact, it is not uncommon for children to cough and have phlegm at night, especially if they drink some sugar water or carbonated drinks at night, which may increase the severity of children's bronchial diseases. Pay attention to eating more hard foods and keep the child's diet light, and the condition will be fine.
