Nursing measures for phototherapy of neonatal jaundice

Every child is the treasure of the family, especially in today's society. Having a child makes him the focus of the whole family. They revolve around the child every day, fearing that something might happen to the child. So, how much do you know about the nursing measures for phototherapy of neonatal jaundice? Let me introduce them to the relevant details below, hoping it will be helpful to everyone.

1. Education to parents of sick children: Due to lack of correct understanding of neonatal jaundice, many families of sick children believe that yellowing of the newborn's skin is normal and does not require treatment and will heal naturally in a few days. Moreover, due to the special nature of only children, in addition to the children's parents, the relatives and family members of both parents are also concerned about the children's illness, and they often have different opinions. In addition, due to the lack of understanding of light therapy, some parents of children are anxious and even refuse light therapy. Therefore, we should adhere to the child-centered approach, and have the attending nurse provide routine neonatal jaundice education to the parents of the children, explaining the causes of the disease, the basic concepts of phototherapy, the effects of phototherapy and related matters, so as to relieve the concerns of the parents of the children, gain their trust, and enable the children to receive phototherapy as early as possible.

2. Preparation of phototherapy equipment: Clean the phototherapy incubator, pay special attention to removing dust from the lamp, and replace the lamp in time. Medical Education Network collects and organizes the humidifier in the box. Fill the humidifier with water until it is 2/3 full, turn on the power, check the circuit and the height of the lamp, and raise the temperature of the box to a suitable temperature for the child. The relative humidity is 55% to 65%. It is forbidden to place debris in or on the box to avoid blocking the light.

3. Preparation of the child: Routine temperature monitoring before light exposure, check the integrity of the child's skin, whether there is redness of the buttocks, and whether there is any hard swelling, keep the child's skin clean, cut the nails short to prevent the child from scratching the skin by dancing, and wrap the child's hands and feet when necessary. The wrapping should not be too tight to avoid affecting blood circulation. To avoid genital damage, a urine pad should be used and replaced in time. Wear a black eye patch and secure it with tape to prevent retinal damage. In addition, the decomposition products of newborns during light therapy are discharged through the intestines and irritate the intestinal wall, causing loose stools and increased bowel movements. The excreted feces and urine produce ammonia substances, which are more irritating to the skin of newborns and can easily cause arm redness. Therefore, in addition to changing diapers frequently, newborns undergoing phototherapy also need to protect their arm skin with anti-infection and skin lubricating substances. After changing the child's diaper, apply tannic acid ointment on his arms to act as a protective film, which can effectively prevent feces from irritating the child's arm skin and prevent arm redness.

4. Prevent vomiting and suffocation: Children under phototherapy are prone to crying and trembling, and the anatomical position of the newborn's stomach is horizontal, which can easily cause vomiting in newborns. Furthermore, newborns have poor reflexes, and vomited stomach contents can easily choke the trachea and cause suffocation in the newborn. Therefore, measures should be taken in nursing to prevent suffocation caused by vomiting in newborns. Medical Education Network collected and sorted out that when feeding children, a 45° angle should be adopted and the feeding speed should not be too fast. Within 30 minutes after feeding, the head should be slightly elevated and the right back of the child should be fixed with soft cloth to make him/her lie on the right side. In this way, the milk can enter the duodenum as quickly as possible, reducing the long-term residence and irritation of the milk in the stomach. Moreover, when the newborn vomits, this position makes it easy for the milk to be spit out of the mouth. If the child inhales too much air while crying, do not feed him/her temporarily, otherwise it may cause vomiting. When the child is crying and irritable, the caregiver should give skin contact and try to feed him after he is quiet to prevent vomiting.

The above is the content of the nursing measures for phototherapy of neonatal jaundice. After the above introduction, I believe everyone has a certain understanding of it! When children are sick, you should comfort them more and not lose your temper with them. Being sick is a very painful thing, so it requires the attention of adults.
