How many bowel movements are normal for newborns

Some newborns have problems with defecation, so it is necessary to take appropriate measures in time to ensure the health of the children. In particular, many newborns have problems with the frequency of defecation, which will seriously threaten the health of the newborns. So how many bowel movements are normal for newborns? Well, let me introduce you to the issue of the frequency of bowel movements.

Newborn stool

Normal baby stools should be soft and watery, usually light brown or mustard yellow. Don't worry if green stools appear sometimes. Generally speaking, few parents will have obvious negative emotions about their children's poop (the situation will be very different if it is other people's children).

Almost all children will occasionally have sudden bowel movements, where urine and feces come together. This sudden event usually occurs when you forget to bring a diaper bag and are in a public place. This does not mean they are sick, or even unwell.

It is completely normal for babies to have a bowel movement after every (several) feedings in the first few weeks (this floodgate will close automatically as the baby gets older). It is normal for babies to have a bowel movement every 34 days, or even once a week. This is especially true for children who are breastfed.

Abnormal baby bowel movements

If your baby has very frequent bowel movements,

Loose, foul-smelling stools, or those that contain mucus, or fever during bowel movements may be symptoms of diarrhea and should be discussed with your doctor. You should also tell your doctor if your baby's stools are hard, ball-like in shape, obviously painful, or even contain blood. While a little straining or brief discomfort is normal, your baby may also be constipated.

Moderate diarrhea means three loose stools within 12 hours. Severe diarrhea means four or more very loose stools in 12 hours. In this case, you should see a doctor immediately.

The above is my opinion on this issue. If the newborn has the above problems, it is necessary to take appropriate treatment and examination in time to ensure the health of the body and avoid dangerous situations caused by the above-mentioned frequency of the newborn's bowel movements. Finally, I wish the newborn a speedy recovery.
