External auditory canal furuncle is an acute localized suppurative lesion of the skin of the external auditory canal, also known as localized external otitis, which is more common in summer. Experts from Tianjin West China Hospital said that the human external auditory canal is rich in hair follicles and glands. Once the skin of the external auditory canal is damaged, it is easy to cause infection, and furunculosis is also prone to occur after infection. Furuncles in the external auditory canal are very painful. Babies often experience symptoms such as violent crying, refusing to drink milk, restless sleep, and being easily startled and crying because of this disease.

Causes of external auditory canal furunculosis in children

External auditory canal furuncle is a common ear, nose and throat disease in children. It is an acute localized suppurative lesion of the skin of the external auditory canal, also known as localized external otitis. It occurs in the cartilaginous part of the external auditory canal and is one of the common ear diseases, which is more common in summer. The cause of the disease is mostly damage to the skin of the external auditory canal due to ear picking or water accumulation in the external auditory canal during bathing or swimming, which softens the local epidermis and makes it easy for bacteria to invade and infect. In addition, the infiltration of pus from suppurative otitis media and certain systemic diseases such as diabetes can also induce furunculosis in the external auditory canal.

Symptoms of external auditory canal furuncle in children

1. The pain is severe because there is little subcutaneous soft tissue in the external auditory canal, the skin and perichondrium are in close contact, and the inflammatory swelling stimulates the nerve endings. If the boil is on the front wall of the external auditory canal, the pain will worsen when chewing or talking.

2. When the furuncle ruptures, thick pus flows out, which may be mixed with blood. However, since there are no mucus glands in the external auditory canal, the pus does not contain mucus.

3. Pus contamination irritates nearby skin and may cause multiple abscesses.

4. Depending on the location of the boil, it can cause swelling and pain in the lymph nodes in front of or behind the ear.

5. If the boil is on the posterior wall of the external auditory canal, the swollen and edematous skin may spread to behind the ear, causing the postauricular groove to disappear and the auricle to stand up.

6. In severe cases, the body temperature rises and the whole body feels unwell.

The causes and symptoms of furuncle in the external auditory canal of children are introduced in detail above for many parents. Therefore, if your child has furuncle in the external auditory canal of children, after understanding the causes and symptoms, you should give your child effective treatment as soon as possible. Only through effective treatment can your child recover from this disease as soon as possible after treatment.
