What to do if your baby keeps having a cold and cough

What to do if your baby keeps having a cold and cough

Because the baby's body functions are not yet fully developed, his resistance to the outside world is relatively poor. At the same time, since babies cannot accurately express their temperature sensation, colds become one of the most common diseases for children. Children's colds often cause symptoms such as coughing, and sometimes once they catch a cold and cough, it is often difficult to recover. So how should we treat and regulate our baby’s persistent cold and cough?

Drug treatment for baby's cold and cough:

1. Cold and cough caused by external wind and cold

Chinese patent medicine: Qingxuan cough-relieving granules, Xiaoqinglong granules, Chaihuyin granules, etc.

Western medicine: Children's acetaminophen sulfonamine, Chengong Zaixin, Xiaobai syrup, etc.

2. Cold and cough caused by exogenous wind-heat

Chinese patent medicine: For babies under 2 years old, it is suitable to choose Children's Cold Syrup, Hulushan, Children's Baotaikang Granules, and Children's Resuqing Oral Liquid; for babies over 2 years old, it is suitable to choose Children's Cold Granules, Children's Throat Granules, Yinhuang Oral Liquid, Shuanghuanglian Oral Liquid, Antiviral Oral Liquid, etc.

Western medicine: Tylenol cold syrup, Pediatric Medications, Motrin syrup, etc.

Food precautions:

Eat light and easily digestible food, avoid fried, greasy, puffed food and cold drinks. The food temperature should be appropriate, not too hot, because children with colds often have sore throats. Warm food can reduce irritation to the throat. When a child has a poor appetite, parents do not need to force him or her to eat. Instead, they can adopt the method of eating small meals frequently to increase the intake of vitamin C. When your baby has a cough, he should eat less healthy foods such as vegetables, crabs, and persimmons. If your baby is in the early stages of a cough, you can feed him some pears stewed with rock sugar. If you have a long cough and cough up white phlegm, it is not recommended to stew pears with rock sugar, but you can eat some radishes.

Since babies have poor immune function and relatively weak constitution, they often take a long time to fully recover from illnesses that adults can recover from quickly, such as colds and coughs. Parents must have enough patience and perseverance to treat their babies. They must not use some folk remedies just because they are anxious because their baby’s cold and cough are not getting better.
