Preventive care of hydrocephalus in children

Preventive care of hydrocephalus in children

Hydrocephalus in young children is generally caused by consanguineous marriage or the lack of certain vitamins in the fetus. Therefore, pregnant women should pay attention to a balanced diet during pregnancy and provide a healthy living environment for the fetus. Pregnant women should check the health of the fetus regularly during pregnancy. This will help us detect the health of the fetus earlier during pregnancy and reduce the occurrence of hydrocephalus in young children.

Congenital hydrocephalus in infants and young children usually begins to enlarge the head a few weeks after birth, and is usually gradually discovered after 3 to 5 months. Some people have enlarged heads at birth. Clinically, it is especially caused by increased intracranial pressure, which causes progressive abnormal enlargement of the head, which is disproportionate to the development of the whole body. The forehead protrudes forward, the orbital roof is pressed downward, the eyes look down, and the eyeballs turn downward, causing the upper part of the sclera to become white, the anterior fontanelle to expand and the tension to increase, and other fontanelles may also expand. The sutures of the skull are separated, the scalp veins are dilated, and the percussion of the head is a "broken pot sound". In infants and young children, when the sutures are not closed and the intracranial pressure increases, the head can undergo compensatory enlargement. Therefore, the symptoms of increased intracranial pressure may not be obvious in the early stages, but they may also appear when the hydrocephalus is severe and progresses rapidly. The symptoms are repeated vomiting, brain degeneration, brain development disorders, central paralysis of the limbs, especially the lower limbs, often with intellectual changes and developmental disorders, compression and atrophy of the optic nerve, which can cause blindness, nystagmus and convulsions are also common, and are often complicated by deformities in other parts of the body.

Preventive Care

1. Experts suggest that the occurrence of congenital hydrocephalus is related to the lack or excess of certain vitamins during the fetal period, and is also related to the genetic factors of the parents. Therefore, appropriate and correct dietary adjustments and non-consanguineous marriage can reduce the incidence of the disease.

2. As the saying goes, "A big head means a smart child." This often makes some parents take chances when it comes to children with abnormally enlarged heads, and thus often delays the treatment of the disease. Parents should take this as a warning after understanding this disease.

The key to controlling the occurrence of hydrocephalus is to eliminate the risk factors before the fetus is formed and the factors that constitute the fetal period and the perinatal period. This is of great significance for preventing the occurrence of hydrocephalus. If the patient's voluntary movements of chewing and swallowing are affected, the paralysis of the tongue muscles will cause stirring failure. Therefore, food cannot be delivered between the upper and lower teeth, nor can food be pushed into the pharynx. However, the patient's swallowing reflex is still there, and the food can be delivered to the root of the tongue, causing the swallowing reflex to swallow the food.

Through the detailed introduction in this article, we all know that hydrocephalus in young children is a very serious disease. It seriously harms the development of the fetus, so we should go to the hospital more often to check the health of the fetus during the fetal development stage. Faced with the situation of hydrocephalus in young children, I should go to the hospital to receive medical treatment in time.
