What to eat when your baby has symptoms of iron deficiency

The main reason why people use iron pans when cooking in daily life is that the iron elements in the iron pan can be integrated into the dishes during the cooking process, allowing the human body to achieve a better iron supplement effect. However, iron deficiency is very obvious in babies, especially in babies aged three to six months, where iron deficiency often occurs. And if the baby is iron deficient, it will cause iron deficiency anemia, so what food should be eaten to supplement iron at this time?

What are the symptoms of iron deficiency in babies?

Iron deficiency in babies often leads to iron deficiency anemia. Anemia usually occurs between six months and three years old. Many mothers do not easily notice it during this period, but when they go to the hospital for examination, they find that it is moderate anemia. In fact, early detection of the symptoms of anemia in babies and timely treatment can help babies improve anemia. So what are the symptoms of iron deficiency in babies?

1. Progressive paleness of the skin and mucous membranes, most obviously on the lips, oral mucosa, eyelids, nail beds, and palms, accompanied by lack of energy, poor response to the surrounding environment, sometimes irritability, dizziness, tinnitus, memory loss and other discomforts.

2. Digestive system: symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal distension or constipation. In severe cases, there is pica (eating paper scraps, coal slag, etc.).

3. Respiratory and circulatory system: Due to lack of oxygen, compensatory breathing and increased heart rate may occur, which are more obvious after activities or crying. In severe cases, heart murmurs, heart enlargement and even heart failure may occur.

4. Reduced immune function: susceptible to various infections. T lymphocyte function is weakened and the bactericidal ability of granulocytes is reduced.

The above are the symptoms of iron deficiency in babies. When mothers find that their babies have the above symptoms, they need to be alert to whether their babies have insufficient iron intake and go to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible to avoid affecting their health!

What to eat when your baby is iron deficient

What should babies eat if they are iron deficient? In daily diet, mothers should pay attention to the intake of iron-containing foods. Food supplements are not only easy to absorb, but also safer. Let's take a look at which foods are helpful to supplement iron and blood?

1.Animal liver. Liver is the first choice food for preventing iron deficiency anemia. It has a high iron content and good absorption rate, is easy to eat and digest, and is not prone to allergies, making it especially suitable for babies. Pork liver has the highest iron content, containing 29.1 mg per 100 mg, lamb liver has 17.9 mg, and beef liver has 8.8 mg. Chicken liver has the lowest iron content, containing only 8.5 mg of iron per 100 grams.

2. Egg yolk. Egg yolk is the best iron supplement, but studies have shown that although the iron content of egg yolk is high, its absorption rate is low. However, eggs are common foods, easy to eat and preserve, and have high nutritional value.

3. Black fungus. Every 100 grams of black fungus contains 98 mg of iron, which is about 5 times higher than pork liver, the animal food with the highest iron content, and 30 times higher than spinach. However, the absorption rate of black fungus is relatively low, and black fungus has a laxative effect, so it is not suitable for babies with weak stomachs.

Although food can help replenish blood, if the anemia is severe, you should go to the hospital for examination and take medication. For example, ferrous sulfate, ferrous gluconate, ferrous fumarate, etc. can treat iron deficiency anemia.
