Children's oral anesthesia

Children's oral anesthesia

In early childhood, if we do not pay attention to oral care and often eat sweets, it is easy to cause tooth decay and dental diseases, which will require timely treatment. Sometimes general oral anesthesia is required, which is a common anesthesia method for treating dental diseases in stomatology. It is especially suitable for some children who are afraid of treatment. Parents are worried that this general anesthesia will affect their children's intelligence, but research has found that the ultimate impact is very limited.

Children's oral anesthesia

Children's dental treatment under general anesthesia is a special technical project aimed at children with dental phobia, young children and mentally retarded children who are difficult to implement routine oral diagnosis and treatment in clinical oral medicine. Its advantage is that in one treatment, the doctor can complete all the necessary treatments in the child's oral cavity with high quality and efficiency. It is especially suitable for children with poor cooperation ability and large treatment needs.

Will dental treatment under general anesthesia affect children's intelligence?

Current research shows that dental treatment under general anesthesia will not have an adverse effect on the patient's intelligence. However, for children under 2 years old, considering that the treatment demand and difficulty are not very high and the treatment can be completed in an outpatient clinic, dental treatment under general anesthesia is generally not recommended.

What preparations do children and parents need to make before dental treatment under general anesthesia?

Before dental treatment under general anesthesia, parents need to understand the characteristics of the treatment, be aware of what is going on, and complete the physical examination (such as chest X-ray and blood test) and dental examination required by the doctor. Before the treatment begins, truthfully report the child's systemic and dental subjective symptoms to the attending physician, discuss the specific treatment plan with the attending physician, and sign the informed consent form for general anesthesia and dental treatment.

Precautions after anesthesia

Pain: After general anesthesia, you will experience fatigue, muscle aches and sore throat, which will improve within 1-2 days. The pain of the wound can be treated with painkillers prescribed by a doctor.

Diet: Drink a small amount of water first. After 2-3 times without nausea and vomiting, start drinking fruit juice or honey juice. Unless you are hungry, do not eat too early. When eating, eat a small amount of light food first, and observe the reaction, then increase the amount as appropriate.

Fever: A mild fever may occur the day after general anesthesia. If a fever persists, you must notify your doctor.

Other physical conditions: Whether the child has wheezing or difficulty breathing, vomiting, persistent fever or other symptoms. Parents should observe closely. If there are parts with deciduous braces, 1-2 days after surgery

You may feel uncomfortable for a few days, so choose softer food and the condition will improve after 1-2 days.

If your child has braces on his front teeth, please do not bite hard food or toys with his front teeth. Please return for a checkup one week after surgery, and have regular checkups for three months thereafter. Parents are also advised to pay more attention to their children's oral health.
