Is it serious for premature babies to have poor digestion?

It is quite common for premature babies to suffer from indigestion. The child's digestive system is not fully developed, and abnormalities may occur in the digestive system after breastfeeding or in daily life. This can easily lead to constipation, abdominal distension and other symptoms. Therefore, daily diet conditioning is very important. It is best for such children to be breastfed. Let's take a look at this aspect.

What to do if your newborn baby has poor digestion

1. Adjust the timing of breastfeeding

The first half of a mother's breast milk generally has less fat content and is easier for the baby to digest and absorb. Therefore, when the baby has indigestion, it is better to give the baby the first half of the milk every time you feed him.

2. Breastfeeding mothers should pay attention to their diet

Mothers should eat light food, avoid seafood, avoid eating too cold or too hot food, and be selective with fruits, mainly neutral ones. They should also drink more boiled water. Pay attention to nipple hygiene and stop breastfeeding if the breast becomes inflamed.

3. Drinking milk at regular times

Because the stomach and intestines of newborns are delicate and incompletely developed, they need to be fully emptied and rested. In order to ensure the normal functioning of digestion and absorption, it is recommended to feed them every 2 hours during the day and every 4 hours at night.

4. Choose easily digestible milk powder

There are a wide variety of milk powders on the market now. Try to choose ones that are easy to digest for newborn babies, give your baby more hydrolyzed protein milk powder, and milk powder with added FOS (fructoligosaccharides) ingredients that are beneficial to digestion.

5. Massage your belly or back

After the baby falls asleep every night, the mother should gently massage the baby's belly in a clockwise direction through the baby's clothes. Be careful not to exceed 20 minutes each time, and the movements must be gentle. This is beneficial to the digestion and absorption of the baby's stomach and intestines, and promotes the improvement of their functions.

Since newborns only consume breast milk and formula, poor digestion must be caused by these two factors. Closely observe your baby's digestion to see where the problem occurs and take appropriate measures. The greatest wish of parents is that their baby is healthy.
