Vision of a five-year-old child

Vision of a five-year-old child

With the development of science and technology, electronic products are everywhere in people's lives. This not only affects adults, but also affects children's eyesight. More and more children wear myopia glasses at a very young age. The vision of a five-year-old child has not yet fully developed. Parents can control the number of times their children play with electronic products after they are six years old to reduce the possibility of their children suffering from myopia.

1. Vision standards for 5-year-old children

Human vision goes through a process of gradual formation, improvement and consolidation. This process is the development of visual function and is also accompanied by a certain degree of structural improvement. After birth, like other systems and organs in the body, the visual system's functions are not fully developed. There is a stage of functional development from imperfect to complete. This developmental process requires a normal eye structure as a foundation, appropriate visual stimulation, and the visual system must function properly to obtain adequate training.

To determine whether a child's vision is developing normally, we should first know the normal vision range at different age stages. Based on the literature reports on measuring the visual acuity of infants using different methods (OKN, VEP, PL), most experts believe that the visual acuity of newborns and infants one month after birth is light perception ~ eye and manual, two months old is eye and manual ~ 0.01, three months old is 0.01 ~ 0.02, four months old is 0.02 ~ 0.05, six months old is 0.06 ~ 0.08, eight months is 0.1, one year old is 0.2 ~ 0.3, two years old is 0.5 ~ 0.6, and may reach about 1.0 at three years old. But at the same time, some studies have pointed out that visual development varies, some earlier, some later, but most scholars believe that normal adult vision can only be developed after the age of 6 (or even 10).

The visual function of young children has not yet matured before the age of 6. The visual function is not yet sound and not yet consolidated. This is a plastic and changeable stage. Any factors that hinder visual stimulation can block the development of visual function, causing it to stop, delay, underdevelop or become dysfunctional, thus forming amblyopia.

Amblyopia is a treatable visual impairment. It can be detected through vision testing in early childhood. If discovered early and treated in time, it can be cured. Amblyopia is usually divided into strabismic amblyopia, refractive amblyopia and form deprivation amblyopia. Visual examination is an important way to detect amblyopia and strabismus. Generally, light reflex, red light reflex, pupil detection, fundus examination, alternating cover test and preferential viewing method can be used to understand the visual function of children from a few months after birth to 3 years old. Vision examination can be performed after 3 years old. Early detection of amblyopia and strabismus is the key to amblyopia treatment. Treatment is most effective if it can be started before the age of 5 years old. However, amblyopia is often discovered too late, which affects the effectiveness of the treatment.
