How to lose weight if your child is fat

How to lose weight if your child is fat

Now people's living standards have improved, and most of the children are only children. As parents or grandparents, they would like to give all the delicious food in the home to their children. This is also the reason why many children become obese. Obesity is very harmful to children. They must lose weight in time. In the process of weight loss, they must master scientific methods. Children cannot overeat or have picky eating habits. Let us learn about it.

How to lose weight if your child is fat

1. Avoid weight loss misunderstandings

There are many ways to lose weight, but not all methods are suitable for children, especially the dieting methods we are familiar with, or the use of weight-loss drugs, which not only affect the growth and development of children's bones, organs, intelligence, etc., but also cause many side effects. Given that children's immunity is lower than that of adults, children's weight loss cannot be at the expense of their health.

2. Master the scientific method

Weight loss and food weight loss methods have many advantages for children, such as safety and no side effects. Combined with children's living habits and dietary characteristics, children with obesity should pay attention to developing the habit of chewing slowly and not eating too fast. Eat less greasy and fried foods, and eat more vegetables, fresh fruits and high-fiber foods. Do moderate exercise, don’t let your children eat snacks, and parents should do a good job of long-term control.

3. The harm of childhood obesity

(1) The little fat boy’s bloated body, clumsy movements and body shape, and his unwillingness to participate in sports often made his friends unwilling to play with him and he was even ridiculed and laughed at. It's been a long time. It is easy to develop inferiority complex, become lonely, and become psychologically abnormal.

(2) Obese children have abnormal fat metabolism and are prone to hyperlipidemia, which can lead to diseases such as atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, and hypertension.

(3) The endocrine function of chubby children is prone to disorders, and the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, cholelithiasis and gout in adulthood is greatly increased.

If obese children want to lose weight, they must first avoid weight loss misunderstandings so that they can lose weight without harming their health. Secondly, it is necessary to master scientific weight loss methods so that you can lose weight with half the effort. In addition, we introduced the dangers of childhood obesity. We hope that parents and friends can pay attention to it and actively urge obese children to lose weight.

Obesity criteria for children

When parents consider whether their children are obese, they should consider at least three factors, namely body mass index (BMI), waist circumference to height ratio, and body fat percentage.

The first step is to measure height and weight every year and calculate the body mass index (BMI). Usually, children aged 2-6 should be under 18; those aged 6-9 should be under 19; those aged 10-12 should be under 21 (if they are girls, the limit can be relaxed to 22); those aged 13-15 should be under 23; and those aged 16-18 should be under 24.

Secondly, you should measure your waist circumference regularly to determine whether you have abdominal obesity. For children over 6 years old, the ideal waist circumference/weight value is less than 0.46.

Finally, if it is possible to measure the proportion of fat in total body weight, it should be less than 20% for boys and girls under 12 years old; and less than 25% for girls over 12 years old. Of course, at present, it may be difficult for parents to measure the body fat percentage by themselves, but using body composition analyzers in gyms or some hospital outpatient clinics can play a certain role in preliminary screening.

It should be noted that the accuracy of this analyzer is related to the measurement time, whether the bladder is empty, and even whether there is sweat on the soles of the feet. The error is relatively large (the value for fat children may be lower, and that for thin children may be higher), so it can only be used as a simple measurement. For more accurate judgment, you should go to the pediatric or endocrinology department of the hospital.
