Can children swim when they have a fever?

Nowadays, people's living conditions are getting better and better. After the baby is born, parents like to take the baby swimming. Swimming has many benefits for the baby, but can the child still go swimming when he has a fever? Some people think that when a baby has a fever, his physical strength is not good or his immunity is low, and swimming may make the condition worse. However, some mothers think that when a baby has a fever, he should go swimming, which is conducive to cooling down and sweating. So, can children swim when they have a fever?

1. Can children swim when they have a fever?

Whether children can swim when they have a fever is not a single answer. It depends on the child's mental state and the swimming environment. If there is a large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the swimming pool, or a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, swimming is not recommended. If you are in a bad mental state, listless and sleepy, swimming is not recommended. Of course, if the child is in good condition and his diet is not affected, he can swim, but he must be careful not to catch a cold and drink plenty of water.

2. Can’t use broth to supplement nutrition?

High fever can also lead to increased metabolism of various nutrients and increased oxygen consumption, so it is right to pay attention to nutritional supplements for your baby. However, it is wrong to supplement nutrition by giving your baby broth. Because high fever reduces the activity of digestive enzymes and affects the baby's digestive function, eating greasy food at this time will not only fail to be absorbed, but will cause vomiting or diarrhea, aggravating the body's dehydration.

When your baby has a fever, you should feed him/her liquid, nutritious, light and easily digestible food, such as porridge, vegetable soup, fruit juice, egg custard, etc. In addition, give your baby plenty of water to drink, preferably salt water. On the one hand, this can replenish lost water and electrolytes, and on the other hand, it can achieve the purpose of cooling down.

3. Can’t we assume that the disease is cured when the fever subsides?

In daily life, many parents mistakenly believe that once the fever subsides, the disease is cured. This misunderstanding often causes the baby to have a fever again or the original disease to worsen, thus delaying treatment. Fever is only a single symptom of a certain disease. The disappearance of fever only indicates that the baby's body's heat production and heat dissipation regulation mechanism has returned to normal, but it does not mean that the disease is cured. Only when the cause of the disease is truly eliminated and the basis of the disease is fundamentally corrected can the disease be cured.

4. Don’t think that a high body temperature means you are sick?

Babies are prone to fever when they are sick, but a high temperature does not necessarily mean that they are sick, because the baby's temperature is affected by many factors and often fluctuates. For example, in the evening, the baby's body temperature is often higher than in the early morning; feeding, exercise, crying, wearing too many clothes, etc. can cause the baby's body temperature to temporarily rise to 37.5℃, and occasionally to 38℃. Newborns or infants are especially more susceptible to the above conditions.
