Reasons why babies frequently wake up at night

Babies sleep longer than adults because they are in the growing period. Some babies rarely cry at night, while others wake up frequently at night. If parents find that their baby used to rarely cry at night but now wakes up frequently, they must pay attention! It is necessary to pay more attention to observation and understand some of the reasons why babies wake up frequently at night, so that they can take better care of their babies.

Generally speaking, night waking occurs more often in babies under 3 years old, and is more common in babies under 1 year old. There are many factors that cause babies to wake up at night, such as being hungry, wanting to urinate or defecate, or being woken up by heat, etc. But if the baby wakes up frequently at night or even gets irritated and cries, then parents should consider the disease factor! The "culprit" that causes the baby to wake up at night may be these common diseases:

1. Colic: This disease is common in newborn babies aged 3-6 weeks. The onset is usually very acute, often in the afternoon and at night. The baby will have symptoms such as flushed face, clenched fists and kicking feet, so the possibility of colic cannot be ruled out if the baby wakes up at night.

2. Nasal congestion: The baby's nose is blocked by nasal crust, or nasal congestion caused by other conditions such as sinusitis, colds, etc. can also cause the baby to wake up at night.

3. Indigestion: The baby’s digestive function is not yet perfect, and the ability to digest food is weak. If the baby eats too much during the day, he may have difficulty falling asleep at night due to bloating.

4. Otitis media: Babies who are still breastfeeding are particularly prone to choking on milk. The milk can flow back into the middle ear through the baby's Eustachian tube, which can easily cause acute suppurative otitis media. Otitis media can cause ear pain and fever in babies. If your baby is restless, scratches his ears, wakes up at night and cries incessantly, it may be because he has otitis media.

5. Eczema: Eczema can cause redness, peeling, itching and other symptoms on the baby's skin. When sleeping at night, the baby's attention is more focused and he is more sensitive to itching, which causes waking up at night.

In addition to these common causes of disease, teething can also cause babies to wake up frequently at night. Teeth growth does not rest at night, so babies are in the teething period.
