The cavity formed by the joint capsule in the knee joint is called the joint cavity, which contains a certain amount of synovial fluid, so it can play a lubricating role. There is negative pressure in the joint cavity, which means that the atmospheric pressure is greater than the pressure inside the joint cavity, which can make the joint more stable.

Why does the knee joint make a sound when it bends? The sound can be mainly divided into physiological sound and pathological sound.

First, let me introduce you to physiological sounds. You should have heard some noises from your bones when you pull or bend your fingers. These noises are because when the joints are pulled or bent, the joint cavity inside is expanded, causing the pressure inside the joint cavity to continue to decrease. Then the gas in the synovial fluid is continuously exhaled to form a relatively large bubble, and then the bubble bursts or some kind of vibration occurs together with the synovial fluid, which will produce the crisp sound that people hear.

At present, the principle of physiological sound in the knee joint remains to be studied, but if it is just an occasional sound in the knee joint that does not cause pain and has no great impact on the human body, then no treatment is needed. But be careful not to repeatedly do movements that cause clicking in the knee joints.

There is also a pathological sound, which is most likely caused by various diseases inside or around the joints of the human body, resulting in symptoms of mechanical disorder of the joints during movement. The most common one is the sound caused by meniscus damage. Of course, if there are lesions in the synovium, ligaments, and tendons around the joints, these reasons may also cause clicking in the knee joint.
