Can mild thrush be treated with a vaccine?

Can mild thrush be treated with a vaccine?

Oral thrush is a common oral disease in babies. Once a child suffers from thrush, it will have a great impact on the child's vision. In addition to taking their children to treat illnesses in a timely manner, there are many other things parents need to pay attention to when their children are sick. So, can babies be vaccinated during the period of thrush? The following will answer your questions and introduce the treatment and prevention methods of thrush.

1. Can babies be vaccinated against thrush?

Generally speaking, babies with thrush cannot be vaccinated. They can only be vaccinated after they have recovered. Because if the baby is vaccinated when he has thrush, it will make the condition worse. Oral thrush generally does not affect vaccines, but thrush must be treated with medication. Mix nystatin tablets in a suppository or a small amount of saline, and then apply it in the mouth. It will usually heal in 1-2 days, but be sure to continue applying it for 2 days after the symptoms are no longer visible. Thrush is a fungal infection. Children’s bottles, nipples, and toys must be regularly washed and disinfected, otherwise it is easy to recur.

However, if parents are concerned, they can choose to postpone vaccination. Vaccination for oral thrush can be postponed. Oral thrush is an infection caused by Candida albicans. When the body's resistance is relatively low, it is easy to react to the vaccine. You can wait until the disease is cured before getting the vaccine.

How to treat thrush

1. Local medication: Local medication in the mouth is the simplest and most effective method. First, clean the mouth with a weak alkaline solution, such as 2% sodium bicarbonate solution, then wash it with a saline cotton ball, and finally apply 1% gentian violet twice a day. It usually takes 2 to 4 days to heal.

Nystatin can also be used topically. First, grind 500,000 units (tablets) of nystatin into fine powder, divide it into 4 equal portions, use 1 portion each time, and sprinkle it directly into the child's mouth. Do not feed water, and let the baby stir it with his tongue to allow the drug to fully contact the oral mucosa. Generally, do it twice a day and the thrush will disappear after a few days.

2. Systemic medication: Children with severe thrush can also take some antifungal drugs orally, such as nystatin or clotrimazole for comprehensive treatment.

3. Pay attention to dietary hygiene and keep tableware and food clean. For example, bottles, nipples, bowls and spoons should be dedicated and need to be washed with alkaline water and boiled for disinfection after each use. Mothers should wash their hands and nipples before each feeding. Children with thrush should pay special attention to dietary nutrition and strengthen their physical fitness, which will help prevent the occurrence of thrush.

3. How to prevent baby thrush

1. Pregnant women with vaginal mycosis should actively seek treatment to cut off the route of transmission.

2. Wash the tableware used by infants and young children for eating and then steam it for 10-15 minutes.

3. Breastfeeding mothers should clean the areola with warm water before breastfeeding; they should also take a bath, change underwear, cut their nails frequently, and wash their hands every time they hold their baby.

4. Infants’ bedding and toys should be regularly washed and dried; the baby’s toiletries should be kept separate from the parents’ as much as possible and disinfected regularly.

5. Young children should regularly engage in outdoor activities to increase their body's resistance.

6. For infants and young children living in a group in kindergarten, their utensils must be separated and not mixed.

7. Antibiotics should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
