Specific manifestations of tics

Specific manifestations of tics

Childhood tics are now a relatively common disease. When children are diagnosed with this disease, they will blink, stare, frown, and have involuntary twitches in parts of their body. When children suffer from tics, parents should not scold them, but should provide timely psychological counseling, take the children to the hospital for examination, and adjust their diet and eat more nutritious foods.

What is tic disorder in children

1. Childhood tics, also known as "childhood coproleptic tics", are a common disease among children in recent years. There is no unified opinion on the cause of the disease in the medical community. As for the causes of tics in children, some say it is related to caesarean section and oxytocin.

2. If your baby often makes eyes, shakes his head, shrugs his shoulders, puffs up his belly, or has sore throats, and in severe cases even swears to himself, then your baby may have juvenile tics.

Causes of tics in children

1. Mental factors.

If the baby is frightened or inexplicably emotional, and if the parents do not discover and deal with it in time, the baby may suffer from childhood tics.

2. Physical factors.

If the baby is nervous, timid, hyperactive, emotionally unstable, and sensitive to people and things, he or she is likely to suffer from childhood tics.

3. Family factors.

If the parents have a tense relationship, are divorced, or scold or beat their children, these behaviors can easily lead to tics in babies.

4. Other factors.

Sudden illnesses, such as upper respiratory tract infections and minor brain injuries, can also be triggers of tics in children. Studies have found that severe colds can also trigger tics.

Symptoms of tics in children

1. Children with pediatric tics will have short, fast, sudden involuntary movements, which may initially manifest as frequent blinking, squinting, sniffing, pursing, opening the mouth, sticking out the tongue, and nodding. As the disease progresses, the tics are not limited to facial expressions, and may appear alternately such as shrugging, twisting the neck, shaking the head, kicking the legs, shaking the hands, or twitching the limbs. The symptoms are more obvious when the emotions are tense or fluctuating.

2. In the early stages of tic disorder in children, there will be some simple, involuntary motor tics, and very few will be simple vocal tics. Common tics are mainly concentrated on the face, such as blinking, squinting, rolling eyes, biting lips, opening mouth, nodding, shaking head, stretching neck, shrugging shoulders, etc. A few simple vocal tics present as repeated coughing, throat clearing, and humming. This disease is more common in children under the age of 12, and the most common symptom is blinking.

How to treat tics in children

1. There are two types of medicines for treating pediatric tics: Western medicine and Chinese medicine. Western medicine mainly controls motor nerves, but at the same time, the child’s normal movements will also be affected, so the dosage needs to be controlled.

2. All medicines are poisonous, so it is generally not recommended to use drugs to treat pediatric tics. However, when the condition is serious, Western medicine can be used to control it slightly (long-term use is not recommended), and Chinese medicine can be used as an auxiliary. In addition, diet is also very important. Don’t let your children eat greasy food, and let them eat more fresh vegetables and fruits.

3. When parents find that their children are sick, they must not stop, correct or scold them, otherwise the baby’s self-esteem will be hurt. Many parents choose to treat their children with massage, but in theory acupuncture will have a certain effect, while massage is ineffective.
