How to cool down your child physically

The thing adults fear the most is when their children get a fever or fall ill. Because children are young, it is common for them to have fever and fall ill. However, giving them injections and taking medicine will cause them pain, and adults will feel uncomfortable as well. They are also afraid that physical cooling of children will have no effect, delaying their children's treatment. In fact, this is not the case. There are many physical methods of cooling down. Using the right method will quickly cool down the child without causing them extra pain, and it will have no effect on all aspects.

1. Apply cold compress to forehead

When the child's body temperature is stable, declining or in the late stage, a cold towel can be used. Parents can apply a cold towel or ice pack to the child's head, or use a cold towel to wipe areas with large blood vessels such as the armpits, neck, and leg pits. This can help reduce the child's temperature and fever and prevent the child's temperature from rising again.

2. Alcohol bath

Soak gauze or a small soft towel in alcohol, wring it until it is half dry, and gently wipe the patient's neck, chest, armpits, limbs, and palms and soles. The concentration of alcohol used for bathing should not be too high, otherwise using high-concentration alcohol over a large area may irritate the skin and absorb a large amount of moisture from the epidermis. It should be noted that 25%-50% alcohol is most appropriate.

3. Use a cooling patch

The antipyretic patch has the effect of reducing fever and can relieve the fever associated with colds. Always have some cooling patches at home. Cooling patches are easy to use. They can quickly dissipate heat and reduce temperature by sticking them on the child’s forehead. They are convenient and easy to use.

4. Stay hydrated

When a child has a fever, his lungs breathe faster and his body's circulation speeds up, similar to the feeling after strenuous exercise. His skin sweats more and water evaporates through sweating, which causes the child's body to consume more water. This exceeds the metabolic process under normal conditions, and a large amount of water is lost. Therefore, children need to replenish water in this state.

5. Warm water bath

Warm water sponge bath is suitable for cooling down children with high fever. The method is to wipe the child's skin all over the body with warm water at about 32℃ to 34℃. You can wipe the armpits, groin and other areas with rich blood vessels for a little longer to help dissipate heat. The chest, abdomen and other areas are sensitive to cold stimulation, so it is best not to wipe them. At the same time, it should be noted that if a child with a rash has a fever, do not use warm water baths to cool down the temperature until the temperature drops.
