Why do babies have diarrhea after taking jaundice medicine?

Jaundice in infancy certainly cannot be ignored in treatment. Some medications are needed when infants have jaundice, but some medications may cause diarrhea in infants, which is also relatively common. It mainly depends on whether the appropriate medication can be chosen. Now light therapy actually has a very good effect on newborn jaundice, so parents should pay attention to the correct way to deal with neonatal jaundice.

1. Jaundice is divided into 2 types

There are physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice generally does not require treatment. Pathological jaundice refers to the bilirubin value being greater than normal. If a child is given some drugs to treat jaundice, the possibility of pathological jaundice should be considered. For pathological jaundice, our treatment is generally blue light therapy, supplemented by oral administration of Yinzhihuang and Mami Love. Children suffer more from blue light therapy, and many parents are unwilling to do so. Mami Love is a drug that regulates intestinal flora and will not cause diarrhea in children. Yinzhihuang is a Chinese patent medicine. Some children may have loose stools after taking it.

2. Medication

Drug treatment is also divided into Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Western medicine treatment is through the supply of albumin, correction of metabolic acidosis, liver enzyme inducers (such as phenobarbital), intravenous immunoglobulin. Western medicine mainly uses enzyme inducers or glucocorticoids, while Chinese medicine treatment mainly uses Artemisia Capillaris decoction.

3. Light therapy

Phototherapy is a simple and effective method to reduce serum unconjugated bilirubin. Phototherapy can be used for any cause of increased indirect bilirubin, especially when maternal-fetal blood type incompatibility hemolytic disease is diagnosed.

Place the newborn in a lying position in the phototherapy box. Remember to protect your eyes with a black eye patch to avoid damaging the retina; cover the perineum and anus with a diaper, and keep the rest of the body exposed. Use single-sided or double-sided blue light for 24-48 hours (generally not more than 4 days) until the bilirubin drops below 7 mg/L.
