What are the signs of baby's umbilical cord falling off?

Many babies have some residue left after their umbilical cords are cut when they are born. This is normal and will fall off naturally in a short time. During the period when the umbilical cord falls off naturally, you must provide good care. Poor care can easily lead to some diseases, and you should not try to help the umbilical cord fall off artificially. There are signs of umbilical cord shedding, so just pay attention to the follow-up treatment and care during this period.

1. When the scab is about to fall off, the belly button will appear shriveled. Be careful not to pick the scab with your hands, as it will usually fall off on its own. Be careful not to wet the belly button when taking a bath. If the belly button becomes red, swollen, or bleeding, it is recommended to use 75% alcohol or iodine to disinfect it, and then use a sterile cotton swab to wipe the belly button dry.

2. Pay attention to disinfection. Generally, 24 hours after the birth of the child, the gauze bandage should be opened and no longer bandaged to promote the drying and shedding of the umbilical cord stump. When handling the umbilical cord, wash your hands and pinch the umbilical cord, lift it gently, and use a 75% disinfectant alcohol cotton swab to disinfect the root of the umbilical cord and wipe off all secretions and blood stains. Do this 1 to 2 times a day to keep the umbilical cord clean. At the same time, diapers must be changed frequently to avoid urine and feces from contaminating the umbilical cord. If purulent secretions are found at the root of the umbilical cord and the umbilical cord is locally red, it means that omphalitis has occurred and you should go to the hospital for treatment.

3. The time when the umbilical cord stump falls off varies from newborn to newborn. Some fall off earlier and some later. The earliest falls off in three or four days, and the latest may take a month or so. The most important thing is to take good care of the umbilical cord, so that the umbilical cord will fall off easily. Some children may need to have their umbilical cord re-clamped. If the cord stump falls off, it will be loose and you may even bleed a little. No preparation is required.
