What are the dangers of childhood obesity?

Childhood obesity is relatively common in clinical practice. This disease is mainly caused by excessive eating, so it is called simple obesity. This is a chronic metabolic disorder, so childhood obesity is quite harmful to the human body and may lead to low IQ.

1. Obese children have high blood lipids

The blood lipids of obese children are significantly higher than those of normal children, and dyslipidemia is a high-risk factor for atherosclerosis.

2. Obese children are more susceptible to respiratory diseases

Obese children have fat accumulation on their chest walls, which restricts chest expansion, reduces compliance, and limits diaphragm movement, affecting lung ventilation function, reducing respiratory resistance, and making them susceptible to respiratory diseases.

3. Obese children are prone to fatty liver

The incidence of fatty liver in severely obese children is as high as 80%. Childhood obesity is an important risk factor for inducing fatty liver. Hypertension and high blood lipids are danger signals for the development of fatty liver in obese children.

4. Obese children are more susceptible to digestive system diseases

The prevalence of digestive system diseases in obese children is 15%, which is significantly higher than that in normal children (4%).

5. Obese children have low immune function

Obese children have low immune function, especially significantly reduced cell activity, making them susceptible to infectious diseases.

6. Obese children have hyperinsulinemia

Obese children generally have hyperinsulinemia. In order to maintain the needs of sugar metabolism, they are forced to secrete large amounts of insulin for a long time, which leads to failure of pancreatic secretion function and causes diabetes.

7. Obese children have precocious puberty

The blood testosterone levels of male obese children and the serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels of female obese children are significantly higher than those of normal children. Increased body fat can cause increased secretion of adrenal hormones, reduce the sensitivity of the hypothalamus to the threshold of circulating sex hormones, and cause precocious puberty. Early sexual development can cause sexual awareness, and will lead to negative psychological states such as confusion, fear, anxiety about sex at an early stage, affecting children's learning and life.

8. Obese children have low IQ

The total IQ and operational quotient of obese children are lower than those of healthy children. Their activities, learning and communication abilities are low. Over time, they will become depressed and have low self-esteem, which will make them sensitive to interpersonal relationships, introverted, and have low social adaptability, affecting their mental health.
