Generally speaking, children around one year old have very vigorous physical growth and development. At this time, they often have more eye mucus. When you wake up in the morning, you can easily find some eye mucus in the inner corner of your child's eye. Sometimes there may be a lot, and sometimes there may be only a little. There is no need to be surprised if children have a lot of eye mucus. Many children have this phenomenon. As the child grows older, this phenomenon will disappear on its own. The most common reason for excessive eye secretion in newborns is nasolacrimal duct obstruction, and then consider whether there is conjunctivitis or dacryocystitis. If the child has excessive secretion in only one eye, which is light yellow and white, or only one eye often appears "tearful", then the possibility of lacrimal duct obstruction is high. It is recommended to massage the lacrimal sac for the child first. The method is: use the thumb to press slightly from the inner canthus along the bridge of the nose to the nose wing, 5 times a day, 5 times each time. Remember to trim the nails cleanly. If there is no effect at all after lacrimal sac massage, it is recommended to perform lacrimal duct probing. It is best to do it when the child is 3 months old, because the child's tear point is large enough to facilitate flushing and probing, and the struggle is not strong. If the child struggles more when he is older, it will be more difficult to probing. If the child is born naturally and has a lot of eye secretions, then you should consider whether there is conjunctivitis or dacryocystitis. The former is usually accompanied by redness and swelling of the eyelids, while the latter will immediately increase the secretions significantly when pressing the inner canthus. Neonatal conjunctivitis is mostly caused by bacterial infection, which is caused by contact infection when passing through the birth canal. It is manifested by a lot of secretions, purulent, and even yellow-green. It can be treated with ciprofloxacin eye drops. If it is caused by a viral infection, it is manifested by relatively less secretions, yellow-white, and thinner. It can be treated with acyclovir eye drops. However, because newborns have little contact with the outside world, the chance of viral conjunctivitis is very small, so it can be temporarily not considered to be caused by viral infection. It should also be noted that if a child has a lot of eye mucus and it lasts for a long time, you need to consider whether there is an infectious disease in the eye. Especially when there is a lot of eye mucus, the child's vision is blurred, or the eyes are congested, then the possibility of infection is very high. It is best to go to the hospital for examination. If it is caused by infection, appropriate measures should be taken to treat it. |
