There is a lump on my child’s neck. What should I do and how should I treat it?

Recently, some parents consulted me about the pimples on their children's bodies. Here, I will give a detailed explanation. Speaking of my personal real case, parents should still pay attention to the inexplicable bumps on children's bodies. My nephew had a lump in the armpit, which turned out to be a benign tumor. It recovered quickly after surgery. So, I hope parents can also pay attention to it.

One of the factors that cause baby's bumps is probably the lymph nodes in the neck.

Because the formation of lymphatic tissue, especially lymph nodes, develops rapidly within one year of age, healthy children may feel lymph nodes in superficial parts of the body such as behind the ears, neck, under the jaw, armpits, and groin (i.e., groin).

But parents should note that the lymph nodes in these areas are normally no larger than soybeans, are mostly single, soft in texture, can slide under the skin, are painless, and are not stuck to the surrounding tissues. Parents can make their own judgments.

However, if lymph nodes are touched under the chin, supraclavicular fossa and elbows, it is abnormal and is mostly caused by inflammation. Although the lymphatic system develops rapidly within 1 year old, its barrier defense function is still poor in the early stage, and it is not easy to control infection. Therefore, if an infection occurs, it is easy to spread and even cause sepsis. Therefore, it should be taken seriously.

If the same area is infected repeatedly, the same lymph node may swell repeatedly. The result may be that the infection has been cured but the swollen lymph node will not completely return to normal, and it may even become a hard lump that is swollen for life. This palpable lymph node lump does not indicate infection and does not require special treatment.

Through the above explanation, I hope that parents can make more informed judgments about the bumps on their children. If the bumps on their children do not meet the criteria for lymph nodes, they must go to the hospital to see a professional doctor in time. Only by doing some corresponding examinations can we confirm whether our baby is healthy. We must rule out all diseases.
