Why do children get appendicitis?

Acute appendicitis is a common acute abdomen in pediatric abdominal surgery. When a child develops appendicitis, he or she will feel abdominal pain, which starts in the center of the navel and then moves to the right lower abdomen. This is a typical symptom of appendicitis. In fact, parents need to be vigilant when their children have stomachaches. Any disease occurs for a reason, so what are the causes of appendicitis?

The cause of acute appendicitis in children is still unclear and is multifaceted, mainly the result of the interaction and mutual influence of factors such as appendix cavity obstruction, bacterial infection, blood flow disorders and nerve reflexes. The specific reasons may be as follows:

1. Bacterial infection

Such as the above cold, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, etc.

2. Obstruction of the appendix cavity

Obstruction of the appendix cavity due to fecal stones, foreign bodies (fruit pits, ascaris), torsion of the appendix, and scar stenosis of the lumen facilitates bacterial invasion, which is also a common cause of acute appendicitis.

3. Neurological reflexes

Children catching cold, diarrhea, gastrointestinal dysfunction and other reasons may cause intestinal bacteria to invade the appendix and cause appendicitis. When gastrointestinal dysfunction occurs, it is often accompanied by spasm of the appendix blood vessels and muscle reflexes, causing obstruction of the appendix cavity and blood circulation disorders, causing inflammation.

In order to prevent your baby from developing appendicitis, mothers can pay attention to the following aspects:

Diet: guide your baby to form good habits, pay attention to hygiene, and avoid overeating;

Activities: Do not let your baby do strenuous exercise such as jumping or running immediately after a meal;

Deworming: If your baby has intestinal parasites, you should go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor's instructions for deworming treatment;

Exercise: Strengthen your baby's physique, strengthen exercise, and prevent various occurrences.

The above is a brief introduction of appendicitis in children. Although the cause of appendicitis is not very clear, appendicitis in children develops rapidly. If immediate countermeasures are not taken, it may lead to more complications. Once complications occur, their treatment will be greatly affected and the prognosis will not be good.
