Is jaundice 22 high?

Is jaundice 22 high?

The occurrence of physiological jaundice in newborns does not require any treatment. It will disappear on its own over time and will not have any impact on the baby's health. There is a standard value for normal jaundice, but is 22 high? This value is still very high, and parents need to observe carefully. If the jaundice condition does not improve, medical treatment should be sought. Nowadays there is a good way to treat jaundice, which is blue light irradiation. The treatment is fast and effective.

A neonatal jaundice value of 22 is high. Neonatal jaundice may be physiological or pathological. If it is physiological jaundice, it will disappear on its own without special treatment. Pathological jaundice is caused by disease, which leads to abnormal metabolism of bilirubin. It occurs in a specific period of neonatal life, significantly aggravates physiological jaundice, and is easily confused with physiological jaundice. Pathological jaundice is divided into: infectious and non-infectious. Infectious jaundice can be caused by infection with bacteria and other pathogens, such as viruses, Treponema pallidum, Toxoplasma, etc.; non-infectious jaundice includes hemolytic jaundice, biliary atresia and hereditary diseases.

Preparation before blue light therapy for neonatal jaundice:

(1) Preparation of the patient's parents: The patient's parents should be informed of the hazards and treatment objectives of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, and the principle and safety of blue light therapy should be explained. To relieve the concerns of the children's parents and enable the children to receive light therapy as early as possible.

(2) Preparation of the blue light bed: Place the blue light bed in an air-conditioned ward and maintain the room temperature at 22-28°C. Check whether the lamp is fully lit. Wipe off the dust on the lamp before turning on the light to avoid affecting the light penetration. Make sure the clothes on the blue light bed are clean and dry, and preheat the temperature of the bed to 28-32℃ before putting the child in.

Pathological neonatal jaundice can also cause manifestations of other diseases, such as kernicterus. When it occurs, the child's jaundice becomes significantly worse, and begins to show symptoms of drowsiness, weakness or choking when sucking milk, and decreased muscle tone. If not treated promptly, serious symptoms such as groaning, screaming, convulsions, and respiratory failure may follow. Some children die from respiratory failure, and those who survive often have sequelae such as intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy.

To sum up, if a newborn has jaundice, it must not be taken lightly and should be treated actively. I hope the baby can grow up healthily.
