Babies under one month old sleep less

Babies under one month old sleep less

Generally, newborn babies spend most of their time sleeping. When they are in their mother's belly, the baby's world is dark and they will sleep when there is nothing to do. After the baby is born, he will still sleep as usual. If your baby gets less sleep, it may be because he has not eaten enough and is very hungry, or the light in the surrounding environment is too strong. Babies are more accustomed to sleeping in dimly lit places. It is also possible that the baby is not feeling well.

Babies under one month old are considered newborns and generally should sleep for more than 20 hours. If your baby sleeps so little, you should consider whether he is not full from feeding and cannot fall asleep, or whether the sleeping environment is not good (too noisy, too bright, or the quilt is too thick or too thin), or whether the mother deliberately created an overly quiet environment for the baby when he was young, resulting in him waking up easily at the slightest noise. This requires the mother to find the reason herself.

If none of these reasons are present, it is possible that the baby may be suffering from a deficiency of trace elements. The mother can take the baby to the hospital for a trace element test to see if there are any other diseases.

However, if all the test results are normal, then there is no need to worry too much about the length of the baby's sleep. As long as the baby's weight and height gain each month is normal, the mother does not need to worry too much. Babies also have individual differences.

Newborn babies, except for feeding, generally spend their time sleeping, and this is the case for most babies. However, as the baby grows, sleep time will decrease, and individual differences in sleep duration will gradually increase. Some babies may need to sleep for more than 20 hours a day, but for some babies, 15 to 16 hours is enough.

In fact, mothers don’t need to worry too much about this. There are great individual differences in baby’s sleep. The sleep amount of babies at each month’s age mentioned in the book is just a rough reference data, and not every baby is like that. Although the baby's sleep time is not long, it is normal if the baby has a good appetite and spirit. If one of the parents has less sleep, it may be hereditary. Give the baby cod liver oil to help calcium absorption, reduce daytime sleep time, and sleep well at night.

This condition of the baby is caused by calcium deficiency. Give the baby cod liver oil or vitamin D, and give the baby oral calcium gluconate solution. It is best to let the baby bask in the sun more to promote the absorption of calcium in the body.
