Why is the baby's fontanelle jumping?

For inexperienced young mothers, you are definitely not clear about the baby's fontanelle beating, so once this symptom occurs, you will definitely be at a loss. The following is an introduction to what is going on with the baby's fontanelle beating. I hope that all mothers can take some time to read the content of the article. This will be of great help to you in taking care of your children and understanding some common symptoms.

1. The baby's anterior fontanelle is an empty fontanelle formed by two frontal bones and two parietal bones. That is, we can usually see a soft area on the top of the baby's head that can sometimes be seen beating. When a baby is born, the distance between the opposite sides of the anterior fontanelle is approximately between 2 and 2.5 cm, and it usually closes at 12 to 18 months of age. If the fontanelle is too small at birth or closes within 6 months, especially if it closes at 4 months, it may affect the development of the child's head.

2. A small fontanelle mainly means that the fontanelle is only as big as the tip of a finger. It may be caused by microcephaly or premature craniosynostosis. In particular, premature closure of the sagittal suture will cause the baby's head to become longer and narrower, forming a head deformity called scaphoid, with a protruding occipital region, a wide forehead, and a small or invisible anterior fontanelle. If the baby's fontanelle is too small, the head circumference should be measured regularly to observe whether the head circumference is within the normal range before the baby is one month old. Parents should check the growth rate of the baby's head circumference every month or every two months and compare it with that of normal babies to see if there is any obvious lag. If the baby's head circumference is developing normally, even if the fontanelle is a little smaller, it will not affect the development of the brain.

3. However, for children with small fontanelles or premature closure, if there are no obvious symptoms and signs of rickets, calcium supplementation may be temporarily stopped. If a child shows symptoms of calcium deficiency, calcium supplementation should be carried out scientifically under the guidance of a doctor, because severe calcium deficiency can also affect the child's intellectual development. At the same time, attention should also be paid to monitoring the development of head circumference and be alert to whether it is microcephaly. If the head circumference increases by an average of about 1 cm per month within six months, it means that the child's brain development is normal.

4. The early or late closure of the fontanelle is the main factor to measure the development of the skull. Closure that is too early or too late is a manifestation of abnormal growth and development. In traditional Chinese medicine, a protruding fontanelle is called "fontanelle filling", a sunken fontanelle is called "fontanelle depression", and a delayed closure of the fontanelle is called "cranioclonus". Late closure of the fontanelle is often seen in infants with rickets, hydrocephalus, cretinism and rapid growth.

5. The fontanelle on the top of infants' heads usually closes around 18 months, and in a few cases it closes within 24 months. The closure of the fontanelle is a window that reflects the development of the brain. If it closes before 6 months, it means that the child may have microcephaly or brain hypoplasia. Of course, there are a few healthy children whose fontanelles close early or late.
