The order of adding complementary food to children

When the baby is about four months old, we will slowly add some complementary foods to the baby. However, since the baby's organs are not yet fully developed, there are also some things to pay attention to when adding complementary foods. First of all, most of the time you should start with liquid food, such as fruit juice, and then slowly move on to rice soup and steamed eggs. Then you should proceed step by step. Don't add many kinds of complementary foods to your baby at the beginning, and don't give too much at one time to avoid causing food overeating in your baby.

Order of adding complementary food

You can gradually start adding complementary foods to your baby after he or she is four months old. However, due to the characteristics of the baby's digestive system development, the addition of complementary foods needs to follow the principle of from less to more, from thin to thick. It is best to add fruit juice and vegetable juice first, and then start adding rice soup, egg yolk, etc. after the baby adapts.

1. Start with low-allergy, light-flavored foods.

2. Feed only one new food at a time, and start with small amounts. The concentration of the food should also go from thin to thick.

3. Start each meal with new food, and add the food you have already eaten when you don’t want to eat it anymore. Add one new food every 5-7 days.

Add rice noodles or rice soup at 4-6 months, add grains and root vegetables around 7-8 months, and start trying various leafy vegetables and fruit purees. After 8 months, you can start adding meat.

New mothers may not be clear about the order and timing of adding complementary foods to their baby, as well as the signals sent by the baby when starting to add complementary foods. When you first start feeding your baby, inappropriate food may cause the baby to feel uncomfortable and have constipation or diarrhea, so mothers need to pay close attention and adjust the complementary food ingredients at any time.

The best time to add baby food

1

Combining the opinions of many domestic and foreign pediatricians and parenting experts, it is generally believed that the best time to add complementary foods is when the baby is 6 months old, that is, starting from the seventh month. The earliest is no earlier than 4 months and the latest is no later than 8 months. No matter which feeding method you use, it's the same.

The time to add complementary foods to premature babies should be calculated after the corrected age. For example, a premature baby born at 34+3 weeks of gestation will need nearly six weeks of "correction". In other words, this premature baby should not be given complementary food until 7 and a half months after birth. However, premature infants should receive regular follow-up. Lungs, eyes, hearing, rickets, anemia, and neurodevelopment are evaluated. The doctor will give specific suggestions on adding complementary foods.

Why add it at this stage? Because at this stage, the child's entire digestive system is mature. For example, the baby's digestive enzymes are basically mature, that is, the gastrointestinal system is mature.
