Causes of low creatinine in children

Causes of low creatinine in children

Low creatinine in children is mostly caused by malnutrition. Frequent snacks or not eating staple foods can lead to the inability of the kidneys to function properly, causing low creatinine. There are also some people who are relatively normal but thin, have a vegetarian habit at home, have gastrointestinal diseases, etc.

What is the reason for low creatinine?

Creatinine is an important blood test item. Its value represents whether the kidney function is sound. Creatinine is synthesized by the muscles in the body or taken from animal food. High creatinine indicates poor kidney function.

Malnutrition

1 The main sources of creatinine are human muscle production and acquisition from external things. Creatinine molecules are relatively small, and the filtration rate in the glomerulus is extremely high. A healthy kidney only needs one kidney to function to completely control creatinine within the normal range. People with malnutrition will have less muscle in the body. If the animal food content in the food is not low, the blood creatinine will be low.

Thin body

2 Some people have a normal body, but are thin and have a small amount of muscle in their body. Every 20g of muscle produces 1mg of creatinine. If the total amount of muscle is small and there is less animal food in the diet, low blood creatinine will also occur.

Vegetarianism

3 There are some people in the society who do not eat animal food and rely entirely on plant food to maintain their lives. The main source of creatinine in these people's bodies is muscle production, especially women, who have a relatively small amount of muscle mass, so their blood creatinine will naturally be low.

Gastrointestinal disorders

4 Two-thirds of the creatinine in the body is secreted by muscles, and one-third comes from food. If a person's digestive function is poor and the absorption of the ingredients in food is very low, the food source of creatinine will be reduced and the total blood creatinine will be low.
