White spots on the child's throat

White spots on the child's throat

Many children are found to have white spots in their throats during physical examinations at the hospital. This is a type of leukoplakia in the throat, which mainly occurs in the vocal cords. Generally, this condition does not need to be paid too much attention to for the time being. Appropriate vitamin supplements, reasonable care, and a good check of throat inflammation can slowly help the condition recover.

Disease Name

Laryngeal leukoplakia

Disease classification

Otolaryngology

Disease Description

Laryngeal leukoplakia refers to the laryngeal mucosa lesions of keratinized hyperplasia, which is more common in the vocal cords and is often considered to be a precancerous stage.

Symptoms and signs

The main symptom is hoarseness, which worsens as the disease progresses. Under laryngoscope, there are slightly raised white flat flakes with smooth surfaces on the surface of the vocal cords or the middle and front 1/3 of their edges. The patches are limited in scope and difficult to remove. Vocal cord movement is good.

Causes of Disease

It may be related to smoking, improper use of voice, chronic laryngitis, and vitamin deficiency.

Pathophysiology

The laryngeal mucosal epithelium proliferates with incomplete keratinization, and the submucosal tissue also has mild hyperplasia.

Diagnostic tests

Under laryngoscope, there are slightly raised white flat flakes with smooth surfaces on the surface of the vocal cords or the middle and front 1/3 of their edges. The patches are limited in scope and difficult to remove. Vocal cord movement is good.

Treatment options

Because it may be a precancerous lesion, regular follow-up is required. Local irritant drugs are contraindicated, and the lesions can be carefully removed under laryngoscopy. For rapidly expanding cases, laryngeal slit surgery may be performed.

Disease prevention

Regular follow-up should be performed. Topical irritants are contraindicated.

Medication safety

Talk less, eat a light diet, and eat less spicy and irritating food.
