Cuts are injuries caused by sharp objects such as knives, iron pieces, and glass fragments that cause damage and rupture of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, or deep tissue. It is common for children to suffer cuts in their daily lives.

The characteristics of cut injuries are that the wound is relatively neat, the rupture is small, the bleeding is more, but the surrounding tissue damage is relatively light. Since the wound is neat, it generally heals quickly if it is treated properly and there is no bacterial infection.

Countermeasures:

For shallow cuts, such as cuts on the hand caused by a sharp kitchen knife, the first thing to do is to apply pressure to stop the bleeding. Ask the child to raise his fingers and pinch both sides of the finger base to stop the bleeding. Then use alcohol or iodine to disinfect the skin around the wound, apply mercurochrome, and bandage it with clean gauze. It will usually heal in 3 to 5 days.

If the wound is deep or the finger is cut off by a machine or a sharp blade, you should first stay calm and do not panic. While calling 120 emergency number, you should comfort the child, raise the injured finger, pinch both sides of the finger base, and apply pressure to stop the bleeding; or use clean gauze to apply pressure to stop the bleeding.

If a finger is cut off, it should be wrapped with clean gauze and sent to the hospital's orthopedic department as soon as possible. If you are far away from a hospital and the weather is hot, the severed finger should be wrapped in clean gauze, placed in a clean plastic bag, tied tightly, and then placed in a box, surrounded by ice to prevent necrosis of the severed finger. But you must never refrigerate the severed finger directly with ice or soak it in disinfectant.

If you are cut by rusty iron or knife blade, or the wound is contaminated by dirt, you should go to the hospital for emergency treatment and receive an injection of tetanus antitoxin or tetanus toxoid to prevent tetanus.

Try to keep your children away from sharp objects: Children like to imitate their mothers doing housework, but at this time, they should not be allowed to play with kitchen knives; if there are gaps in the windows at home, they should be repaired in time, and broken glass products should also be removed in time to prevent curious children from playing with them and hurting themselves.
