What should I do if my child likes to bite his nails?

Children's nail biting is one of the most common bad habits in the process of children's growth. As parents, the first thing is to worry about the health and hygiene of children. Secondly, after timely discovery, we should slowly observe the reasons why children like to bite their nails so as to prescribe the right medicine. Don't blindly preach to children. In fact, if children's nail biting is not improved in time, it will affect the children's future, so we must not be careless.

Nail biting, also known as onychophagia or nail biting, refers to the behavior of biting nails repeatedly. Nail biting is a common bad habit in children, which is more common in children aged 3 to 6 years old and can affect both boys and girls. Most children's nail biting behavior will disappear on its own as they grow older, but a few stubborn ones may continue to do so into adulthood.

Method: 1. General treatment: Parents should first realize that this is a disease. Simply beating or punishing the child is not only unhelpful, but will make the condition worse. In addition, children's nails should be trimmed regularly to prevent nail infection and epidermal damage.

2. Psychotherapy: mainly uses behavioral restriction and positive guidance. The so-called behavior restriction means that when a child bites his nails, parents should patiently teach him to slowly remove his fingers from his mouth, and express approval with a smile, nod or praise, and use a meaningful thing or toy to distract the child's attention.

Warm reminder: nail biting can be mild or severe. Most cases are not serious, but frequent nail biting can cause the tops of children's nails to be uneven and unable to cover the fingertips. In a few more serious cases, the nails or the skin around the nails may be bitten and bleed. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by infections such as onychomycosis and paronychia, and some may even cause the entire nail to fall off or become deformed.

We must know that children biting their nails is a pathological condition, not a hobby. We must not let children develop this habit freely, but must correct it in time. First of all, we can help children learn to divert their attention. In addition, we can give children more psychological comfort and more sense of security, so that children will slowly get rid of these bad habits.
