What to do if your child is allergic to milk powder

Nowadays, children are generally not breastfed, but basically use formula milk. However, since some of children's body organs and digestive organs are not yet fully developed and they are not very adaptable to the external environment, many babies will develop milk powder allergies after coming into contact with certain milk powders. Parents should understand some first aid measures for children who are allergic to milk powder so that their children can grow up healthily.

Milk powder allergy refers to an excessive reaction of infants to the protein in milk powder. Infants and young children have poor ability to break down protein, only about one-fifth of that of adults, so the large molecules in milk are difficult to be absorbed by children's intestines, thus causing protein allergic reactions.

The first thing to do is to change the milk powder. About 2-3% of children will develop eczema after drinking milk powder. Now, allergy-resistant milk powder has been specially developed and produced for children with allergies and eczema. By hydrolyzing the protein, the protein molecules are made smaller, so that the milk powder will no longer cause allergies when passing through the baby's intestines.

Allergy-proof milk powder is also called hydrolyzed protein milk powder. It is made by processing the protein in the milk powder first. The hydrolysis process makes the original protein molecules smaller. This makes it easier for people who are allergic to protein to absorb because the protein molecules become smaller. The body's immune system will not be affected by them, and no allergic symptoms will occur.

Hydrolyzed protein milk powder can be divided into partially hydrolyzed and fully hydrolyzed protein milk powder. Fully hydrolyzed protein milk powder has a poor taste and no milk powder flavor. It is mainly suitable for people who are severely allergic to milk protein. It is difficult for ordinary children to accept its taste. The degree of hydrolysis of partially hydrolyzed protein milk powder is about 50-70%. It tastes much better than fully hydrolyzed milk powder and is easier to accept.

Another method is to drink goat milk powder, as goat milk contains fewer allergenic ingredients.

If the mother has enough breast milk, it is recommended to breastfeed the baby. In addition, mothers who breastfeed should regulate their own nutrient absorption and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. When feeding, whether it is breast milk or formula, there should be an appropriate amount and correct feeding method. Do not feed the child too much at one time, otherwise it will cause digestive problems for the child.
