What is the shape of newborn baby's stool?

Today I want to talk to all expectant mothers about the shape of newborn baby's stool. Newborns must defecate after birth, but newborns are different from adults. Problems such as newborn diet will affect their defecation. So how do newborns' stools change under different circumstances? I believe this is something that many first-time mothers do not understand. Let me show you what the shape of a newborn's stool is like.

Within 12 hours to 3 days after birth, the baby will excrete dark green or dark green feces, which is sticky and odorless. This is normal meconium. If the mother has enough milk, the baby's meconium will turn into normal baby stool after 2 to 3 days; babies who are breastfed will have meconium 2 to 4 times a day, which is yellow or golden ointment-like, sour but not smelly, sometimes with milk lumps, or slightly green. Sometimes the baby has more bowel movements, 4 to 5 times a day, or even 7 to 8 times, but if the baby is in good spirits, can eat, and continues to gain weight, this is also normal. After adding complementary foods, the frequency of bowel movements will decrease; Babies fed with cow's or goat's milk have light yellow or earthy gray stools, which are uniformly hard and paste-like, often mixed with milk curds and protein clots, which are drier and thicker than the stools of breastfed babies, with a slight odor, and occur 1 to 2 times a day; When breast milk is insufficient and milk and starchy foods are added to the baby, the baby's stools will be yellow or light brown, soft, and have a foul odor, and occur 1 to 3 times a day. If you add vegetables to the baby's diet, you may see green vegetable scraps in the baby's stool. This is not indigestion and will be cured after feeding the baby for a few more days without stopping.

The above is all about the shape of newborn baby’s stool. All expectant mothers must remember that they can also determine what problems the baby has based on the baby's bowel movements or stool shape, and prescribe the right medicine. Babies who are still breastfeeding should pay special attention to dietary issues. Here, we also hope that every baby can grow up healthy and happy.
