How much weight does a newborn baby gain during the confinement period?

Some physical conditions of children, such as their height and weight, can effectively reflect whether the child's development is healthy and whether the child needs some nutrients. Children are in a state of development after birth. Let us find out how many pounds a newborn baby should gain during the confinement period.

1. Weight: It is the most important and sensitive indicator of children's growth and development, and can reflect the nutritional status of children. Weight gains fastest in the first three months after birth, generally at 600 to 1000 grams per month, and preferably not less than 600 grams. During 3 to 6 months, the average monthly growth rate is 600 to 800 grams. From 6 to 12 months, the average monthly increase is 300 grams. The growth rate of children slows down significantly after one year old, and the average weight gain of children aged 1 to 3 years is 150 grams per month.

2. Height: Factors that affect growth and development in the short term (nutrition, disease, etc.) have little effect on height. Height is mainly affected by genetics, race and environment. Height grows fastest in the first year after birth, with an average annual increase of 25cm. The average growth in the second year is 10cm, and in the third year the average growth is 4 to 7.5cm.

3. Head circumference: Head circumference is an important indicator of a child’s brain development. The average head circumference at birth is 34cm; at 1 year old, it is 46cm; it increases by 2cm in the second year and 1-2cm in the third year. The average head circumference at the age of 3 is 48cm, which is not much different from that of adults.

4. Chest circumference: When a child is born, the chest circumference is smaller than the head circumference. As the child grows older, the chest circumference gradually catches up with the head circumference. Generally, when a child is 1 year old, his chest circumference is equal to his head circumference. However, due to generally good nutritional conditions, the chest circumference of many babies catches up with their head circumference before they are one year old. After a child is one year old, his chest circumference grows significantly faster than his head circumference, and the chest circumference gradually exceeds the head circumference.

The child's body and weight are maintained within a certain range. If the value is too high or too low, it will have a certain harmful effect on the child's health, which is mainly reflected through weight. If the child's weight cannot reach a certain value, it means that the child's body lacks some substances and needs to be supplemented in time. If the weight exceeds a certain value, corresponding measures need to be taken for treatment.
