1. Obvious abdominal bulge

Normal newborns often have a mild or obvious abdominal bulge after feeding, and sometimes there is milk regurgitation, but the baby is quiet, the abdomen is soft, no lumps can be felt, the bowel movements are normal, and the growth and development are good. This is usually called "physiological abdominal distension." This is because the newborn's abdominal wall muscles are thin, have low tension, and produce more gas in the digestive tract.

2. Frequent vomiting, poor spirits, and refusal to eat milk

However, if the abdominal distension is obvious, accompanied by frequent vomiting, the baby is in poor spirits, does not eat, the abdominal wall is hard, shiny and red, small blood vessels can be seen exposed (medically known as varicose veins) and lumps can be felt; some are accompanied by jaundice, white stools, bloody stools, tarry stools, fever or the above-mentioned "five no" symptoms, these are all manifestations of the disease and you should go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible.

3. The baby's stomach is making sounds, which are bowel sounds

In addition, the baby's stomach makes rumbling sounds, which are bowel sounds, mainly caused by swallowing a large amount of air when feeding. They are the sounds made by gas and liquid with intestinal peristalsis. It is recommended that every time the mother breastfeeds or feeds the baby, the baby's head should be slightly elevated and the nipple hole should be filled with milk to prevent the baby from inhaling too much air. After the baby finishes feeding, sit him upright and pat his back until he burps. Burping can help expel the air inhaled into the stomach while sucking milk, which will alleviate this symptom.
