Does the baby need to be on an empty stomach for the physical examination before kindergarten?

Babies will have a physical examination before going to kindergarten. Generally speaking, it does not need to be done on an empty stomach, because the items they need to check will not have much impact after eating. However, it should be noted that drinking sugary drinks before the examination will cause blood sugar test results to be high, so parents need to pay attention and remind their children of relevant precautions in time.

1. Do I need to be on an empty stomach for the physical examination before entering the park?

Generally speaking, babies do not need to be on a fasting stomach for their physical examination before kindergarten, because the general physical examination includes routine blood tests (this item does not require fasting), baby's height, weight, vision test, hearing test, external genitalia examination, etc., and these items do not require fasting. Of course, if the kindergarten has special requirements for parents before the physical examination, and they have some additional examinations that require the baby to cooperate on an empty stomach, then parents should cooperate with the kindergarten's requirements and give their children an empty stomach physical examination. So, what is fasting? In medicine, fasting means: no food and water intake for 8 hours before the examination. That is to say, after the baby has dinner the night before, do not let the baby eat or drink water! You must fast within 10 hours before the physical examination, and the examination must be done on an empty stomach in the morning. Many people often worry about whether they can abstain from drinking before the physical examination.

2. Can I drink water before the physical examination?

Many people drink water and beverages, mainly worried about whether it will affect the test results of routine blood and urine tests during physical examinations. In fact, on the day of the physical examination, you can drink 200 ml of boiled water after getting up in the morning, which will not affect the results of the physical examination. The blood volume of our human body accounts for about 7-8% of body weight, so a person weighing about 60 kg has a blood volume of about 4200-4800 ml.

If you drink 200 ml of boiled water on the morning of your physical examination, it will take at least half an hour from the time you leave home to the time your blood is drawn. By then, the water you drank has already been absorbed and has penetrated into the tissues to participate in metabolism. During this half hour, 20-40 ml of urine will be produced, and some of it will be excreted through breathing and sweating. Therefore, the increase in your blood volume at that time would not exceed 40 ml, which is less than 1%, and it would not have any impact on blood indicators.

3. Doctors emphasize:

Drinking sugary drinks on an empty stomach will cause a sudden rise in blood sugar, especially within a few hours before having blood drawn for a physical examination. Therefore, it is best not to drink sugary drinks to avoid affecting the results of the physical examination.
